Extended battery life. Easy to setup. Easy to read the screen. A great investment. It's well worth the money.

It has good and bad features

The size is great. Selecting and editing the data screens is very good. But there aggravating features not covered in the on-line manual. My major complaint is that if I am going over a bumpy area, the data screen suddenly shows the selection mode for the eacb selection, e.g., 6A, 6B, etc. Getting out of this mode is not intuitive. There are right and left arrows, but they do not seem to do more than select how many screens are displayed. In short, I have great difficulty getting out of this mode, but this may be because of my age (92).

Big Bright Screen I can read

My 8 year old Garmin Edge 810's touch screen wasn't responding along the far right perimeter and decided to look for a replacement. I loved the 810. It brought me from LA to Boston, Astoria OR to Rapid City, SD and San Francisco to Pueblo CO and hundreds of other rides in between. Many friends recommended Wahoo or Kamoot and after looking at them determined that for my riding and priorities, I preferred the Garmin ecosystem. I looked at several models and even the solar powered ones and landed on the 1040 non-solar powered one. Love the wireless upload to Connect, Love the synch feature with my phone for alerts, (won't have to greet a cranky spouse on arriving home about missing a text or phone call), crisp text on screen I can actually read. Love the hill profiles that I can easily swipe away if I don't care to look at gradient ahead, I love how I customized two screens to give me my priority data and nice to know data. Love how synching with my bike sensors was effortless. This device lets me enjoy my ride by giving me confidence I'll always know where I am and that the battery will easily last even my longest ride without needing to recharge even after multiple day rides. I haven't yet drained the battery but I don't I expect I will. I don't like the fact that the frame needs a separately purchased rubber gasket to protect the edges. That's a design omission. I suppose it's like getting a case for your phone... But still. This is a bike computer that will be outside in the elements not sitting in a climate controlled environment. Garmin should've known better. On face value it is expensive. With advances in chip technology it still baffles me that bike computers are still nearly the price of a high end tablet. I'm still mad I couldn't resist purchasing it on principle. But I did need a replacement and I wanted something that will take me on my next decade of riding. Bottom line is I do love the unit. Just wish someone had given it to me for my birthday.

1040 Functional GUI Not as Good as 1030

The 1040 GUI interface functionality is not as comprehensive as the 1030. Some features have also been removed.

Sorry to hear about your experience with the device and we would ask that you reach out to our team so that we can get more details from you and work on a solution with you. Thank you for posting a review. We appreciate the feedback.
I upgraded from a 830 to the 1040 mostly because of the climb pro feature on everyday rides and not just routes. You simply can’t go wrong with any Garmin product.

Got the 1040 bundle. Use the speed and cadence senors as well as the heart rate monitor strap. Easy to set up and use. And, after the ride, I get very detailed data on Garmin Connect. Love the large, easy to read display. Highly recommended for any cyclist wanting to impove their cycling performance!

Worthwhile Upgrade!

After spending 2 years trying to become friends with my 520 Plus, I had enough of the dropped sensors, short battery life and all of the “little things” that plagued that unit. The 1040 answered all my prayers and the D-Fly connectivity is pretty cool! The only thing I would add is that the weather screen should be one of the hidden button options for D-Fly.
