Does not upload to Garmin connect

The unit is very nice and has many great features. I would give it 5 starts if it would speak to the Garmin Connect app after my rides consistently. Most rides do not sync which is a little frustrating as I like to track my performance. The 830 always synced.

Perfect combination with Varia 715 and UT800 Light

I wanted to get cheap bike computer. However I’ve seen reviews of Edge 530/830 then1040 on youtube. There was some considerable points. Finally I decided to get 1040. No regrets. It’s almost perfect. Looking also great. Performance is surely perfect with Varia 715 radar. Recently I added UT800 for night riding, It is also perfect. Garmin is just Garmin.

I’m still learning how to use all of the features but so far really enjoy it and find it helpful. One thing I would really like to be able to do though is connect my Apple Watch for heart rate so I don’t have to wear ten additional heart monitor.

It is a decent upgrade

I upgraded because my 1030 broke down, but don't know if it is worth it - Di2 connectivity seems to be slower than on 1030...when you change gears, it takes a while ti reflect on your screen - does not make sense, but it is how it works
ClimbPro needs to be updated so that it can kick in even when not following a route/navigating.... this should be very easy to do for Garmin after all they are specialists in Navigation

Outstanding Features and Connectivity

I upgraded from a POLAR V650 this is more than an upgrade. Basic and important I can see the screen very well even in bright sunlight, all the configurations I could ask for, excellent battery life, easy and reliable connectivity to the Cadence, Speed and heart sensors and Garmin connect works reliably. There are many other features I could mention like excellent GPS and maps the review would get quite long.

Route calculation error

I upgraded from Garmin Edge1000 to Garmin Edge 1040. I regret upgrading and to only find out this expensive Garmin is having issues since day 1 I go to Training / Training Plan / Find a Course then click on the lower right positive sign (+) / Round-Trip
Course / Search / Calculating Route 1, Calculating Route 2 & Calculating Route 3. It goes through its cycle as if it’s generating the 3 Routes and then I get a message “Route calculation error”.

Software not as good as hardware

Unfortunately, GARMIN software lags far behind competitors.
Garmin Connect's data collection and visualisation methods are completely unprofessional. This applies to the website as well as to the app.
More specifically:
The dashboard analytics are extremely poor and difficult to understand. Maybe someone from Garmin should look into what the (1) guy working at intervals.icu is capable of. The Garmin website shall be completely redesigned.
I'm not sure why my personal data (such as load, rest, and daily workload, HR zones) varies depending on the device. Because these are personal data, they are unrelated to the devices.
The firmware itself lacks centralised organisation and a clear way to display data. The same information is stored in many different menus.
Garmin has a significant advantage over its competitors due to the widespread use of its devices. However, it is unable to capitalise on this and develop an all-around system for athletes.
I will continue to pay for intervals and TR.
