It's good for quick use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's good for quick use but dough doesn't quite cook well enough. Also wood has a better taste but the gas is almost as good.

It's OK.

Worked fine for a while then quickly stopped working. The burner itself I found to be quite insensitive as it either is full throttle or low-flame, there's a small sweet spot in the middle but I had to be very precise to hit that spot. It does get the oven to the desired temps but for the price I expected more.
If you're going to cook with gas, go with the KODA.

Flames goes out often
on November 20, 2024

The gas flame goes out often when cooking. We have tried different propane tanks and moved the oven to different locations. Often in the middle of cooking the flame will go out. We had been using the oven with wood heat but decided to try out the gas option this summer hoping it would be more reliable for consistency and ease. The woods burns down quickly and we need to add more often, but it does work well.

Great heat if you keep safety devices clean!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great way to add easy heat to your oven without messing with wood or charcoal. It’s quiet and powerful. I’ve been using in Minnesota November with temperatures in the teens and it takes longer to heat up the stone thoroughly but just as I expected. I like the ability to use full heat to raise the stone temperature and then dial it back to low to bake the pizza a bit slower on top while the crust is getting the full stone bake. Then turn it back up to high to reheat the stone between pizza launches.
I had some issues with the unit shutting off after about 20-30 minutes. In fact I thought it might have a timer I hadn’t read about, and then found there were a number of people complaining about this unit either wouldn’t stay lit after initial startup or would shut off while making pizzas—which was my issue.
This has unit has a FSD (fire safety device) that is commonly used on other gas appliances like gas fire pits, gas fireplaces, some gas grills, etc. the FSD is a thermocouple (looks like a blunt needle or metal thermometer) near the flame that as it heats up will send a small electric current to a gas valve that will open and allows the gas to keep flowing as long as the flame is detected at the thermocouple device. This is why you need to keep pressing the gas button after startup to give the flame a chance to heat up that thermocouple in order to keep the gas valve open on its own.
I cleaned the thermocouple with a bit of abrasive sand cloth and read online that Ooni support was having some customers reset the connection between the thermocouple assembly and the gas valve, so did that too. I wish had just cleaned the thermocouple to see if that would have fixed my flame out problem but I did both maintenance steps at the same time. It worked!!! I’ve now had two cooks where the oven ran for over two hours (remember I’m in cold Minnesota) without a single flame out.
So like all equipment, keep it clean and maintained and it will perform flawlessly. And believe me, you may not see any debris on your thermocouple but it’s a very sensitive fire safety device. Give it a good cleaning with a fine sand paper or light pressure and your FSD will keep your gas valve on.
I have this unit a five star because the FSD is found in many gas appliances and this units quality is a good as all others. We just need to keep it clean from the smoke that may occur from initial baking and any whoops/fails that cause smoke in the oven. It may look clean, but a small amount of residue can affect its ability to properly measure the flame intensity and keep your gas valve open.
