Love it but needs improvements!

I do HVAC Building Automation for a Pharmaceutical company. I deal with automated control valves, thermostats, etc.. I've wanted a smart thermostat for our home and this for the price, it's worth it. I also own several cameras as well. I only give it 4 stars for the following reasons.
1. There needs to be a time limit between when the compressor cuts off and on (~5min). This will prevent short cycling from users moving the dial around because the unit will cut on instantly if you do. Once it cuts off, it can't cut on again for 5min.
2. The temperature preferences needs to be modified. It won't let you set your heat/cool set points to anything less than 5°F difference. Currently, if set my heat set point to 68, my lowest cool set point can't be any lower than 73°F. Sorry but 5 degrees is significant in a residential household. I have to keep my "hold" on in order to maintain the temperature I want. In the summer it would work because I won't use heat, so the heat set point doesn't matter. But in the fall/spring, when we are heating during the night and cooling during the day, those set preferences are impossible for maintaining comfort. It needs just 1 COOL set point and 1 HEAT set point with no lower than a 2°F deadband. For ex. If my cool set point is 72°, then it has to get below 70° to turn on the heat and maintain my heat set point. If my heat set point is 70, then it has to get above 72° to turn on my air and switch to maintain my COOL set point. I use this exact process where at work and maintain a <2°F temp control loop, which is not as noticeable as 5°F!!
3. The "Fan cycle" option should have a 0 min/hr setting. The minimum they have is 5min/hr so it will cut your fan on and cycle the air in your house randomly for 5min/hr. It's a great feature for certain applications, but it needs to have an option to turn it off also for energy consumption.
4. Allow people to reply to reviews and comments because some peoples issues can be helped by the community members.
** The things I do like is the look, the coast-to-cool feature, and it's user friendly but you really need to have a better setup and troubleshooting guide. It's practically non-existent. The average homeowner doesn't have basic HVAC knowledge.
** The trending feature (called "insights") is nice also but I would rather see start/stop times in addition to total run times. If you know how often your unit is cutting on/off, you may be able to make adjustments to prevent it from doing that. Short cycling will kill your compressor quickly!

It always offline. I mean always. it keeps trying to help us by changing temp and deciding we are away or asleep. It is really rough, unpolished, and was NOT worth the money. I have the old Honeywell out and we be re installing the default Honeywell and the Wyze thermostat goes into the garbage. Money wasted.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Failure to launch

I ordered two thermostats. My a/c units required the c-adapter and after looking at the guts of my furnaces I decided I should just call in a professional. The a/c service technician got both thermostats and c-adapters set up however, one thermostat would not get past the Wyze screen. I would enter the wifi pw and the app would hang at the connecting status for several minutes. We tried multiple times, rebooting the app and unplugging/plugging in the thermostat to no avail. The second thermostat connected and set up right away, but when we tested the heat the furnace kept turning on and off. After about 10 minutes we gave up on that. We then tried to turn on the a/c and the app kept going back to heat on its own. Again we tried multiple times with the same result. I own 9 Wyze cams, motion detectors, many light bulbs and plugs so I am not new to Wyze and their great products. The thermostat is a failure though. The a/c service tech and I finally gave up and reinstalled my old dumb thermostat.

App needs simplification

While installation was helpful, step by step, it was more complicated than expected. What is most disappointing is that when the thermostat suddenly goes to a state of offline, the only way to reconnect it is by redoing the entire installation as if you were installing brand new. I did not have the prior wiring diagram and post installation diagram to reference when simply trying to reconnect the device or change the WiFi network. This needs to be simplified! I should be able and to edit the network connection and change what network it is connected to.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Convenient Thermostat!

It works really well but for me and my wife the app is a little difficult to use, it took me a while to figure it out but there are many conveniences that are nice to use when we are away from home. If we leave for the evening for a few hours or more and don’t want to come home to a cold house we have the option to turn on the heat or cooling before we head home.

Easy to install and easy to use

I really like this thermostat .Its easy enough to install that I could do it by just watching the video from the Wyze app. i like that i can connect it to Alexa with no problem, through the Wyze app and its also easy to use manually. The design is nice and modern so it will look nice on your wall. Well worth my money.
