Malfunctioning early on

We just had this installed and have only been using it about a week when the drawer would immediately close upon opening. I thought maybe someone leaned on the panel and changed a setting but I cannot find any setting anywhere related to this. In order to get the drawer to stay open we have to press "close" once it is open far enough and it will stop. This is literally brand new. Does anyone have any info or tips?
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

No lit control panel???

Expensive unit with no control panel backlighting is unacceptable. We would never have purchased this if we we knew that. So inconvenient to bend over without seeing control panel selections.

We can understand that having a backlit control panel can be convenient. We will definitely forward your suggestion to our product design team for future developments.

Controls designed by monkeys

Lack of backlighting of controls is a major inconveninece. Typically Microwave Drawers are mounted below waiste level to facilitate raising cookware above the door and side rails. Since the controls do not angle out (see Sharp Microwave Drawers), reading non-backlit controls requires strong room lighting and the need to bend down to put the controls at eye level.

Microwave is zapping after just 2 years!

We built a home and got this “upgraded kitchen” appliances with it. Got a double oven, the gas stove and a tie microwave. We’ve lived in this house for 2 years and the microwave is sparking!!!! Loud zaps! Seems pretty unsafe and crazy that it would not be considered a hazard that GE would want to look into it and replace! Not only is this only 2 years old but we barely use it.

GE CAFE DRAWER MICROWAVE ARCING
on September 7, 2024
Posted by: TJGut
I had reservations about purchasing a built in drawer microwave; however we've had a GE cafe over the range microwave in the past with no issues. We purchased the microwave and had it installed in March 2023 and unfortunately today (9/7/2024) it started to spark in the interior right back corner. The unit was not improperly used, ie. only used microwave safe dishes and unit was kept clean. Totally disgusted as this was a custom fit and now the product is sparking at 18 months old. We have an appointment with GE service tech and understand we are out of warranty coverage (warranty only for 12 months). Hopefully it is only a minor issue and can be repaired.

We recommend resetting your built-in microwave by disconnecting power from the unit for 2 - 3 minutes and reconnecting power. If this reset does not revert the unit back to normal operating function, this will require service by a qualified technician. You can schedule an appointment with a Cafe Appliances technician by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule online at https://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/service.htm
