The timer on the dryer had to be replaced. Very difficult process getting a repair person out to assess/repair Speed Queen products in the San Francisco Bay Area. I was given the ok to hire local appliance repair person. I am waiting to get reimbursed.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We purchased this dryer because it is solid, dependable, and simple. We do not need multiples of settings for drying clothes, only temperature and time. It is so simple, nothing to break as happened on the last 2 dryers I owned (different makes) This appliance is commercial grade quality with a 10 year warranty. It is energy efficient and does the job. I am extremely satisfied.
Am looking forward to many years of maintenance-free usage with this dryer. The multiple settings allow energy efficient drying and am pleased with the performance thus far.
I have had to run my dryer twice to dry one normal sized load of laundry. Not happy at all considering the amount of money we spent and thinking we were buying a great name. We love our SpeedQueen washer, that is why we bought the dryer, but wished now that we wouldn’t have.

I bought this to replace a machine from a competitor that stopped working 3 months past the 12 month warranty. My old machine had a bad main circuit board, and between labor and parts it would have cost more than 50% of the purchase price to fix, plus if I fixed it I had zero confidence in it lasting. 'Don't throw good money after bad' is the way I look at it.
This unit comes standard with a longer warranty, and looks (and works!) like it belongs in a laundromat. Even if it isn't quite as energy efficient as some of the newer machines due to a lack of electronics, who cares if it works, lasts a reasonable length of time, and can be fixed due to the simple design. It's not efficient to throw appliances away, but economics make it the logical thing to do with most newer machines. Think about how stupid that is.
The fact that you can't buy these at big box stores is interesting as they are very highly rated for reliability. It seems like most everything in the big box stores has a one year warranty, which is amazing given how long an appliance should last. It's worth the effort to find a place that sells Speed Queen and spend a little extra money.
I have had my Speed Queens for 3 months now. Obviously, longevity is the name of the game with appliances. That being said, when I turn on my Speed Queen it goes into gear like a truck. I bought the old fashioned models because I wanted old school Speed Queen dependability and it feels like I got it. My machines feel and act like the ones my mother had...and still has. So far they are outstanding!!
I’m disappointed with the new dryer. To get my laundry dry often takes an hour or more. We had the dryer vent cleaned out but it made little difference.
