Disappointed

Everyone I know that has a Speed Queen absolutely loves it. We bought ours on 12/26/22 and have already needed a service call and honestly need another one. We can only use the timed dry setting bc otherwise it runs continuously. And we can only dry items on delicate bc the dryer gets so hot even on that setting. We dry most items on delicate anyway but this dryers delicate is like fire! The buttons on my jeans literally burned my skin when I touched them. That doesn’t seem like a delicate cycle. We’ve had it looked out and the fuse replaced as they thought that was the issue but nope still running fire hot. I was so excited to get a Speed Queen bc of everyone’s excellent reviews but ours is not living up to the hype.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry!
We are very sorry to hear this is happening to your Speed Queen product.
1. In a timed dry cycle the timer advances for the duration of the cycle. The heat circuit has no bearing on the length of the cycle. Auto dry: 1. In an auto dry cycle the heat circuit determines the length of the cycle. a. The machine has a “cycling thermostat” which opens and closes depending on the temperature in the machine b. When the cycling thermostat reaches its limit, it will switch to the open position, cutting off electricity to the heat circuit and redirecting it to the timer motor. i. The higher the moisture content of the load, the longer it will take to reach this point. c. When the cycling thermostat cools enough it will switch to the closed position, taking the power away from the timer motor and redirecting it back to the heat circuit. i. As the items dry, the time to reach the limit temperature will be shorter, thus advancing the timer quicker and quicker, until the end of the cycle.
Based upon the described symptoms, following are possible causes of no timer advancement in either cycle type:

Nice and quiet. Not overly complicated. I hate all the electronics and buttons on most of the new machines. Keep it simple and make it durable.

I have only had the machine for a short time btu it does not outpace my previous dryer which was a Maytag (35-years old). The one feature which is difficult for me is the opening of the dryer door. Obviously designed for safety purposes but for an older person it is hard to open.

Great Dryer! Would buy again

I've been using the dryer for over a month now and it works great. It seems to dry things better than my old dryer and the automatic setting actually works on this unit. We have dogs and are constantly washing dog bedding and we use water proof blankets on our furniture to protect them from the dogs. My older dryer, I would have to run the water proof blanker through in two cycles, but on this unit, it dry's them perfectly in one cycle on delicate setting. While this is an expensive dryer, the way its built is for reparability. I read many of the negative reviews on this dryer and I haven't had any of the problems mentioned in them. My unit did come with the guard to stop clothes falling into the lint trap. If you do a lot of laundry, this thing is a workhorse that dryer large loads in a cycle. I love that it comes with a mechanical knob instead of an electric board as well. .

Easy to use machine resulting in notably less wrinkled clothing! Have found the sanitize cycle does not always result in completely dry loads.

Good dryer, but dial is a problem

I bought the speed queen classic. The dryer works great , but you find out after your dryer runs for hours a few times that the timer dial can only work if you turn the dial clockwise. If you turn it counter clockwise the dryer won’t shut off. No obvious marks to tell you this. Small mention in the handbook. Through my mistakes and kids that do laundry this was an issue for a while and sometimes still an issue when forgotten. I feel a dial shouldn’t turn that way if it won’t work properly, and definitely makings to remind or tell you.

Jury is still out

First what I like: Buzzer for end of cycle. Light in dryer. The problem I am having is that I can't seem to figure out how to dry perma press clothes. If I use the Perma Press cycle and Selector the clothes don't get dry. If I use the Perma Press Selector with the Regular Cycle they get too dry and I am afraid of shrinkage. I have decided when drying Perma Press clothes to set the Selector for Perma Press and then just set the drying time. Frustrating for how much I paid for this dryer.
