Who cares about the packaging? It’s what’s inside!

I love the product. I drink it in the morning with some hot water and a packet of crystal light. I have noticed improvement in my joints, hair and nails. Plus it helps me get the protein in that I need as well. Everyone’s complaining about the packaging. And yes, I prefer the canister packaging that they used to have. But it’s not a dealbreaker for me. Instead, I opened the package with a pair of scissors and pour it into a cute container.

HATE THE NEW PACKAGING ,!!

I have been buying Vital Proteins for over 17 years ….Love the product but HATE THE NEW CARDBOARD CANISTER , It just took me 4 1/2 minutes to get the top off , achieved only by using a sharp knife to saw it off !!
Thankfully I kept one of your former plastic canisters, into which I poured the contents.
I will have to look for a new brand if you do not change back to a screw off top …. I refuse to have to fight to open the canister … takes me longer to open the canister than to drink the smoothie made with it !!

Hi Maureen! hank you for taking the time to let us know about these details. The team is taking this feedback very seriously, and they are continuously working to improve the product overall with high-quality sourcing and sustainability top of mind. We have always focused on making products to support everybody with a body, so it was time to make packaging that also supports a more responsible future. As of December 2022, we begun to remove our plastic scoops from our products. Though we’re foregoing our scoop, consumers can still expect the same efficacious collagen peptides they know and love.
We completely understand your concerns and complications here. We will record your feedback and provide this information to our team for further review.

Exhausted by the Greed

I have a tub of your Vital Protein here, and I noticed a hair in it. I’ve been seeing black specks, and today I saw this hair. It’s probably a rat hair. I don’t have coarse black hair, nor does anyone in my family. I’m the only one using this product.
As a consumer, I’m disgusted and overwhelmed that you can get away with poor quality control. Supplements have no governing body to ensure their safety for consumers. You keep raking in the profits while exploiting our desire to be healthy. You could ground up concrete and sell it as a wonder supplement, and we wouldn’t know the difference.
Whole Foods people!

Sustainability Consultant

As a Chief Sustainability Consultant advising executive leadership across Fortune 500 organizations, I will be unequivocal. The recent redesign of Vital Collagen reflects a critical failure in strategic execution.
Sustainability that degrades the customer experience is not innovation. It is misalignment.
Your core consumer, predominantly millennial women, integrates this product into a highly optimized, time-constrained morning routine. This is a non-negotiable context. Any change that introduces friction at this moment directly undermines product value.
The current design does exactly that. It adds unnecessary steps, requires management of a separate scoop, increases the risk of user error, and relies on packaging that does not meet basic durability expectations in everyday use. This is not a marginal decline in usability. It is a material regression.
I have been a long-term customer and advocate of your product. For the first time, I am actively evaluating alternatives due solely to the added complexity. This is not a personal inconvenience. It is a leading indicator of broader customer behavior.
I stress-tested this perspective across a relevant, high-density network of your target demographic. The response was immediate and overwhelmingly negative. Approximately 97 percent expressed dissatisfaction with the change. This audience mirrors your core market across major metropolitan regions in the United States and Europe. This level of alignment in feedback is not incidental. It is a clear market signal.
This outcome points to a breakdown at the leadership level. Sustainability, product development, and consumer insight functions are not operating in alignment. Either customer behavior was not properly understood, or it was deprioritized in decision-making. Both scenarios represent a failure in governance.
The commercial risk is immediate. You are introducing switching behavior into a category where convenience is a primary driver of retention. Once disrupted, these habits are difficult to win back. Competitors offering equivalent quality with superior usability will capture this movement quickly.
This is not a long-term risk. It is already in motion.
Course correction is not optional. It requires urgent reassessment of the design decision, grounded in actual customer behavior, not theoretical sustainability gains. The objective must be to deliver both, without compromise.
I am sharing this assessment as a professional courtesy with the expectation that it is taken seriously at the appropriate level. I strongly recommend this issue be escalated and addressed without delay.
