This set was a great time to build. it wasn't too difficult and when it was finished it looked exactly like the original G1 toy. I only hope that in the near future they release a lego trailer as well as more lego transformers to go along with this wonderful set.

The fact that this transforms is impressive!

The build is amazing. I can not believe how detailed this model is. The fact that it transforms without disassembly and reassembly is amazing! This is a must for fans of the original series and anybody that enjoys intricate and functional builds!

Designers spend a lot of time combing over the details to deliver a great building experience. We're glad you enjoyed it and took the time to let us know!

My son is absolutely obsessed with Legos and Transformers, specifically Optimus Prime (my daughter LOVES BumbleBee ;) ) and he cannot stop looking and playing with this. His smile is so so so big. It’s amazing that he can transform too!! My daughter will be patiently waiting for BumbleBee hopefully!!

Prime looks great

This was a fun build. I like that he transforms. There is a down fall. When you move his legs, the mid section comes apart. When you rotate him, you can take the upper section off. It's not contacted. With those issues. It's still a great piece. Transforms like g1 prime does. Lego did a great job. Would like to see primes trailer and Soundwave with cassettes.

Excellent engineering!

Personally, I think this it one of the best Lego ideas ever! It's a robot that turns into a truck and it's made of Lego bricks! :) The design is excellent and it matches the original toy design very accurately, down to how the parts move when transforming. Though like with many Lego sets, there are some piece that fall off if you play with it. In this case, it's the pieces above the foot.
I also like the accessories: sure, the "energon cube" is just some purple bricks, but it's a nice addition. I'm a little surprised by the rocket backpack because even the instruction manual says it was only used once in the TV series.
I hope Lego makes more Transformers sets!

Display, DON'T Play
on November 15, 2022

This is a great display piece! Do not play with it though. It looks great on the shelf but if you try to transform it the torso separates from the legs every time and if you don't have it on a table while doing so you will be rebuilding a lot of it. I was hoping it would be more like the sturdiness of the Voltron set, which I let my kids play with regularly, but instead it will be sitting on my shelf to look at only. Still, its a great set for displaying and a great throwback to my childhood!

Awesome Set; Great Detail and Playability

I'm stoked that Lego and Hasbro have made a G1 Optimus and they did it right. Looks great as a display but also he can transform into his cab-over truck form which makes it even better. I hope we see more G1 Lego Transformers... (cough cough Megatron)

(Mostly) More Than Meets the Eye

Optimus Prime is a very good set for a Transformers fan. A little over a foot tall, loaded with accessories, and plenty of trivia in the instructions to go along with the build. Optimus, like any Transformer should, converts from robot to his classic G1 "square-cab" semi truck without the need to disassemble him - something the G1 toy couldn't replicate (you had to remove the hands). Of course, you'd have to switch out the 2x6 tile on his bumper for each mode, but this is negligible. Accessory-wise, you get Optimus' trademark Ion Blaster (which fills the leg gap in truck mode, and with that Technic peghole on the bottom of the gun, makes for a good trailer hitch - get working, MOCists!), his orange Energon Axe (which, I'll admit, kinda makes me think of a pirate's hook hand), an Energon Cube, the all-powerful Matrix of Leadership (Touch not included, but sits in his chest/cab doors thanks to small ball joint cups), and Sideswipe's jetpack used in the 3-part G1 series pilot (which does fill Optimus' back very nicely in robot mode). You even get the standard Lego info-plaque (which with two black Technic pins that were spare parts, I used to store the extra 2x6 bumper plate on the back - thanks, pinholes!) Of course, Optimus isn't 10 out of 10 in all stats (just like the info-plaque says). The 1x4 section on his feet (the part with the clear red 1x2 tile) tends to pop a bit sometimes in transformation. The instructions tell you to put the stickers on his legs (the 2x6 tiles strike back!) upside-down, but a quick 180 fixes that right up. Optimus does have movable thumbs but his fingers are held together by a 1x3 plate, but whether or not you want to remove that is up to you - if you want articulated fingers, go for it. And be careful when you morph the chest - I tend to find that when I transform him and align the chestplate, over time the 4x4 round brick used for turning the cab around starts to disconnect slightly, but this could just be me being a dumb fleshling (as Megatron would put it - hint, hint Lego!) Regardless, with the 40th anniversary of Transformers coming soon, I highly recommend any Transformers fan get this guy. Whether or not my review helps is up to you - after all, "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings."
