A really amazing experience!

After 30+ years, my two all time favorite toys finally merge! And I Really hope there will be more to come. The build itself was the the funnest build I've had in years. The only con's I can think of are 1, I still wish all the pieces were printed & that there were no stickers. 2 the thigh stickers were show to be placed upside down. (easy fix) 3 I had to replace the 1x3 wing pieces on his back side with the 1x3 pieces on his fingers so his legs could move back without falling apart. 4 it would have been nice if he also had possible knees. Other than that, this set is just perfect.

Optimus Prime is Awesome!

I grew up in the 1980s and Oprimus Peime is the most prolific hero of the time and has had a lasting influence to this day. I met Peter Cullen and got his signature and met Stan Bush and got the original Transformers the Movie soundtrack signed by him. I was a massive Transformers fan from the start. This is the best Lego Ideas set to date! This was created by a man from Hasbro that created Transformers toys and it really shows! Optimus is truly stunning here and obviously modeled after the master piece toy by Takara/Tomy. The fact it can transform is amazing! I only have 3 small complaints, the eyes are a print that looks very cheap and cartoonish, the legs are not attached very well and tend to fall off, those are minor the most disappointing feature is the shoulders do not lock into positions up and down so you cannot move his arms into positions for poses, I hope to find a different lego piece to fix this issue. The Jetpack is also very difficult to put on the first time but these issues are minor issues if fixed they would make this one of the most attractive and outstanding sets ever! I still have to say this is an excellent set and build and I give it an excellent rating. I'm a massive Optimus Prime and Transforners fan and this set is nearly perfect and the best looking Lego Ideas set to date! I highly recommend it!

Nostalgia at its best

This set is my favorite yet. I regretted not purchasing the Voltron set so I grabbed this when it released. The build was fun and exciting. While building, I could hear Optimus Prime and the show's sound effects. I know that I had as much fun as I did because of nostalgia, but isn't that why this is a set?
The design is superb. There are some structural weaknesses but that's the nature of a transforming Lego set. It's an 18+ set with display and stands very solidly with good flexibility for poses. If you struggle with transforming it or pieces falling or popping off, take the time to examine all of the joints and movements carefully. If there is resistance to a movement, don't force it. Try to figure out why. Once I spent the time transforming it a couple of times and exploring it's movements and restrictions, it functioned perfectly. This is a heavy and dense unit that requires some care. But, the great thing about Lego is that it can be rebuilt if you are right with it.
The inclusion of the energon cube is ridiculous and the axe, which isn't even Optimus's, is stupid. I'm not sure if they were trying to raise the piece count to justify the selling price or what, but these items are superfluous.

Rewarding Nostalgia

I built this set with my children on Father's Day; sharing the build and experience of Optimus being a father figure to me when I was their age. Definitely one of the most rewarding builds I've done in a long time. I highly recommend Optimus Prime if you are a fan of Transformers and LEGO!

Great for display only

Overall, I purchased this set as a fan of G1 transformers characters, especially Optimus Prime. The build experience was great and the finished product looks great on display. However, if someone buys the set for a child to play with, the child will probably be discouraged and disappointed when playing with it and it keeps coming apart. The legs are extremely heavy that. They come apart from the body if you hold it by its torso. You have to transform it slowly and carefully from robot to truck and back in order to keep it together too. I cannot recommend this set for play value. If you’re a fan of the character and looking for a good set for the build, I highly recommend this set. It also looks great on the shelf.

Childhood dream come true

Growing up, my two favorite things were Lego and transformers. For years I dreamed of having the two combined and now that dream has come true. The build was absolutely wonderful and the the finished set was perfect in every way. The only spot I find troublesome is the middle of the torso comes apart very easily but otherwise it's strong. I definitely recommend every transformers fan and any builder pick this up.
