The only issue I have with this printer is with the ink. It's expensive and seems to run out rather quickly.

I am 82 years old and was not rased with a lap top in my crib like kids today, so learning new things on my computer does not come easy. Have had several new printers over the years but I have to say that my new Epson-xp800 has been easy to learn and has the most features of all of them.

Great Printer -unacceptable power cable connection
on December 16, 2013

This printer is perfect for us, but since the power cable does not stay connected to it, we will be returning it. Before taking your unit out of the store, I highly recommend pulling it out of the box and checking to see if you can live with how the power cable attaches to the printer. We will be checking to see if ours is just a lemon in regards to the cord, and we might just exchange if that is the only problem. If you are truly looking to save space, you will NOT be able to push the printer flat against the wall since the cable connection is on the back side. Otherwise we loved all the features and connecting wirelessly (sp?) through EpsonConnect worked very well through all of our devices.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good printer, not-so-good firmware & ink cartridge

Installing setting up the XP-800 printer on Windows XP and Windows 7 was pretty simple, even when adding it to a new computer over 6 months after the original installation (just download the current drivers and software from Epson). The wireless setup was a piece of cake.
The print quality is excellent and pretty fast, though I have not tried printing photos. The primary paper tray should be re-designed to hold much more paper.
Copying bound documents is a bit tedious, as it scans a bit, then prints a bit, instead of scanning a whole page into memory and then printing from memory while a new page is being placed (primarily when copying from bound documents - automatic document feeder copying is easier).
Most frustrating is that the XP-800 WILL ONLY ACCEPT GENUINE EPSON INK CARTRIDGES, not accepting cheaper cartridges. Even more frustrating than that, about 10-20% of the time it rejects GENUINE EPSON INK CARTRIDGES as being unrecognized!! That means that you must always have spare ink cartridges of every color on-hand because you never know when one will suddenly appear as 'unrecognized'!
To their credit, when called Epson has always shipped a new replacement cartridge at no cost; but I would much rather be able to rely on genuine Epson cartridges working until they are empty. Being required to have spares on hand just lets the ink get older before being used. And... they should permit non-Epson ink to be used - it is the customer's choice to: "pay your money and take your chances".
The optional Epson software performs a lot more disk reads and writes than would seem to be warranted. The titles and uses of the optional software are a bit murky, they could offer a lot more documentation (perhaps a link to the full doc) about what each does and why one should install it when being asked if one wants to install it.
Would I buy this printer again? No - but only because of the issues with the ink cartridges. If you can tolerate the genuine Epson ink cartridge failures, then this is a terrific printer. The printer itself performs wonderfully.
