I might use this printer about once per month and everytime i use it I have to install new cartiges because the head get clogged. Sometimes the printer doesn't recognize the ink even though its brand new original epson ink.

Great until it ran out of ink...

I would not buy another Epson printer based on my experience...
This printer was purchased to replace another brand printer. It worked easily and without incident until the ink cartridges had to be changed. I was informed it had to be replaced (hardware failure) Since it was 5 months old I was sent a replacement.
The replacement would not print all the colors and after frequent "nozzle checks" etc. stopping reading the ink cartridges that came with the printer nor would it accept the set I had purchased for my original printer.
After some serious complaining I have been sent ANOTHER printer-- to replace the replacement ---a new one. This one set up perfectly and is printing beautifully. I'll let you know what happens when the ink runs out.

Do not purchase

I have had nothing but problems with this printer. The ink cartridges do not last long. You cannot print in black if any other ink cartridge is out of ink. It just keeps beeping at you to fix it. It has a tray that moves in and out when printing something. I am just waiting for the gears on that thing to break. Luckily I received this as a gift, so I did not spend any of my own money. I would NOT recommend.

Great Printer for First 9 months of Use
on October 1, 2014

As you can see in the other reviews posted here, the first 6 months are product heaven, after that perhaps a different story. i bought my XP-800 in October 2013 and it has been a good printer and scanner all around - except when it comes to printer cartridge recognition and management of ink use. Without warning, I hit a brick wall that shuts down all printing functions with the message: "You need to replace the following ink cartridges: magenta". i check the ink levels regularly and it was NOT low before i got that drop dead message. Nevertheless, I sent away for a magenta replacement, put it in, and immediately the printer screen said i need a yellow replacement! and again, i can't print anything, even B&W. Obviously this is a product infrastructure flaw NOT a low ink issue. This machine has totally wasted my time! (including this bad review). i am going to replace a complete set of ink cartridges every 6 months from now on to try to achieve a level of reliability.

Serious Problem

I purchased this printer on Dec. 1, 2013, and it worked well until July 9, 2014. I use it primarily for printing photographs. I have printed hundreds, both on glossy and matte paper. On July 9 I tried to print matte finish notecards, and all of the darker areas were blotchy and discolored. It seems to print ok in plain paper settings, but not in Presentation Paper Matte, which is very disappointing.

Poor performance print quality, fails to recognize ink cartridges, Ink is expensive, very poor ink yield. Will return for credit.

Set Up-Fairly easy Wireless connection to a Mac-easy Wireless copying-Really good Scanning-integration with computer leaves lot to be desired. Space saving little copier, with decent paper supply feature. Fast copying, but scanning docs in preparation for email isn't working for me yet.

XP-800 Set-up

Very easy to set up. Instructions were well written and I had no problem following them. Found out I did not have a USB to USB connector so I just used the touchpad to enter in my network info. Easy-peesy! Once that was done I got my main computer set up for the printer and then my ipad. Documents are printing out a lot faster. Looking forward to printing some pictures and comparing them to what I printed with my now-defunct Epson RX600, which I had for awhile.
