Printer has design problems

While the 800 does the usual Epson excellent job of printing photos (my primary reason for having a printer to begin with) it has design problems. The paper trays are underneath the output tray, which makes it a real struggle to load papers. And the ink usage is high (again, I process photos so this was not unexpected), but the cost of the inks is considerably greater than I would expect, and I have to purchase ink more frequently than I have in the past. This means the ink cassettes are not made with the capacity of other printers. While not a design issue, this makes it much harder for me to plan photo printing. Sad, but true.

Lile the footprint of the printer and its quality when it works. However I have had much trouble with one or more ink cartridges not giving out ink because the printhead needed cleaning. This happens too often. I have had previous Epson printers like the Epson RX680 that worked flawlessly. This printer is less than a year old and frequently results in many prints of photographs being wasted, when the printing is initiated wirelessly from another room in the house.

A little Disappointed.

The printer is really good overall.
But when I replace the cartridges, I always have a problem in needing to clean the heads, which uses up a lot of the ink. I have not had that with other products.

Poor Printer

I have had this printer for a year now and have had nothing but issues. I can't print anything anymore of decent quality. One of the colors especially red doesn't want to work no matter how many times I clean, replace the cartridge's and print heads. I will not buy another Epson. I never even bothered trying to print on a CD which is a real shame. I am looking for a new printer. I had purchased another Epson previous to this one and had to return it the day I got it cause of issues.

XP-800 printer

Not the best epson printer I have owned in respect ink usage and quirky off and on failures. It has stopped printing in the middle of multi-page double sided printing. When printing color photos has faded out to white only printing about half of picture. In both instances when I restart the project it works fine. It seems to use much more ink than any others I have owned.
Overall when the above problems don't happen, it is a great printer.
Since I have always used Epson printers and I think this might be isolated I have replaced it with an XP-820

Pretty good except for the ink replacements

I like my Epson printer well enough but the thirsty ink usage is frustrating, because after printing 2 very good color copies, the printer said replace this one, and then replace that one, and pretty soon I could not print at all even though the black was new, before I replaced the black. It was an expensive time, and that's the part I hear about the printer that makes people unhappy. But it's a good printer nevertheless...thanks.

Saw the review on this printer in USA Today. It said that the printer is compatible with Apple products, We just bought an iMac and we have an iPad, iPod Touch and iPhones. The wireless compatibility with all these devices is impressive, especially with the release of iOS6. Definitely the right choice for ease of printing from mulitple wireless devices.
