I took the first one back within the first month due to poor printing out of the 273xl black printer cartridges. The store replaced the printer with no problems. I have now used the second printer for about 8 months and I am NOT very happy with it either. The printer was easy to setup, but that is where everything stops. The printer uses way to much ink! The ink cartridges dry out way to fast even the ones purchased from the online epson store. Then to do a head cleaning to try to get the printer working again you can just sit and watch the ink levels go down fast with each head cleaning. Will NOT go with this brand printer again!

After the first 5 uses, this printer stopped printing black. Both Black and photo black cartridges are full; however it will not print anything with black ink.
I have reinstalled it 3 times now and after the test page, it will not print black text. I am totally frustrated with this model.l

I HAVE BEEN AN IT PERSON FOR 20 YEARS AND OPERATE A COMPUTER SHOP OUT OF MY HOUSE SO I SETUP AND USE A LOT OF PRINTERS.
I PURCHASED ONE OF THESE FOR MY DAUGHTER TO TAKE TO COLLEGE. IT WORKED GREAT UNTIL THE BLACK INK RAN OUT(ABOUT 3 MONTHS). I REPLACED INK CARTRIDGE AND AFTER SEVERAL HEAD CLEANINGS THE PRINTER QUIT RECOGNIZING THE CARTRIDGE. I CONTACTED EPSON AND THEY SENT ME OUT A REFURBISHED ONE, ALL SCRATCHED UP. I INSTALLED THE CARTRIDGES AND PRINTED THE NOZZLE CHECK, ONLY 1/2 OF THE BLACK PRINTED. DID HEAD CLEANING ANF NEXT TIME ONLY ONE SMALL LINE OF BLACK PRINTED. ATTEMPTED 2 MORE CLEANINGS, PART WAY THRU 2ND CLEANING PRINTER BEEPED AND SAID IT COULDN'T RECOGNIZE THE BLACK CARTRIDGE.
IT'S DID THE SAME THING AS THE ORIGINAL ONE. I HAVE BEEN USING EPSON PRODUCTS RELIGIOUSLY FOR OVER 20 YEARS(AT WORK AND HOME) AND CAN TELL YOU THIS MODEL IS JUNK!!

Bad choice

I bought this because it was top rated by Consumer Reports. One of the first jobs was to print a photo. I could not get the printer to print via the rear paper port. Had to use the top tray. Even so, the result had some undefined distortion on one edge. After a few successful print jobs, the printer malfunctioned and missed lines in the black ink. I tried cleaning the heads twice. Although there was improvement, some jets were still non functioning. Was this a sign of bad experiences to come? I had only printed less than 20 pages. I had it with this printer and it went back to the seller for a refund. Very poor choice.

Like so many other reviews, this printer DRINKS ink. I would stay away from this one. The nozzles keep clogging and cleaning drains the ink even faster. I've had Epson printers and scanners for years, but this XP-800 has to go.

Easily the worst printer I've ever owned

At home and work, I've owned and used at least ten printers over the years, including the Artisan 800, which I really like. But this XP-800 is easily the worst. I figure I've had maybe 30 decent pages printed by now, and I just bought my third black ink cartridge, which doesn't work. The first one didn't work, so I bought another cartridge, which did work. It was used just a little bit, when I had to go away and leave it for a year (putting myself out of warranty). Upon return, a few pages were printed fine. But then the message that ink cartridge is not recognized. But purchased one is not recognized either after it is installed. So, I guess I'll buy one more cartridge to try before I throw this XP-800 into the garbage where it belongs.

So Much Ink
on November 23, 2015

I have owned this printer for a few years now, ever since I moved out to college. The quality of printing is satisfactory and the time it takes is not too bad. However, like other reviews have mentioned, this printer uses so much ink. As a poor college student, ink is not cheap, and this printer requires me to buy new cartridges all the time. I usually only print in black ink, so I would understand the occasional need for new black ink, but even the color ink needs to be replaced alarmingly often. Unfortunately I do not have the funds to buy a new printer at the moment, and I am often forced to pay for printing at my university, even though I have a printer at home. If you are looking for a quality and low-cost printer, do not buy this one.
