Been great until last night. 3rd time using it and it struggled to get to temp. Outside air temp was low 60's so doubtful that has that much of a negative effect on reaching temp. Went through standard, instruction prescribed, startup and preheat.
Pellets are brand new too (came in with grill).
Read online to throw them out and try buying new pellets. Kind of sucks seeing as I just spent this volume of money to have a function traeger and then I have to spend more on bad product they potentially send... Nice grill, but honestly not sure I made the right choice with this sort of thing after just receiving it. Left storage door also drops off. Might have to replace hinges too.

Hi, and thanks for reviewing the Timberline XL. Although pellets are the number one cause of temperature issues, please hold off on throwing them out until it can be confirmed that they are really the reason for your Timberline's performance. You can do a quick pellet test by breaking a few between your fingers and making sure that they snap cleanly in half, as opposed to crumbling, which is a pretty accurate indicator of their condition. And while maintenance can also be a factor, you likely already have this covered, especially on such a new grill. But as long as food is not in the grill during startup, airflow isn't being obstructed by pans close the interior walls, and the weather is not exceptionally windy, you shouldn't see more than a +/-25 degree variation in temperature. If none of the topics mentioned here are related to your situation, please give Customer Service a call at 1-800-TRAEGER. We might be missing something very basic that could make a big difference in the performance of your Timberline, and a quick phone call may be all it takes to get it corrected.

This is my fifth Traeger timberline grill and by far the best I’ve had. We use the grill 4 or 5 times a week. It heats up fast even in 20* weather. It’s extremely user friendly. It’s pricey but you pay for what you get.

Very little building compared to my previous timberline. Love the new controller and NO MORE TIN FOIL!

I've been an avid Traeger Grills fan since they started popping on the market. I have several Traegers, and decided to move from the Timberline 1300 to the Timberline XL. This thing is not ready for the market. First, when I got the grill - it came damaged with a cover. Apparently this was a common thing and they shut down replacing lids until they corrected multiple damaged covers. It took 4 months to receive a new grill cover.
Second, I am now stuck in a "Downloading Updates" loop to where I can't even use the grill. I let it run for 2 1/2 hours. Called support, they told me to let it run overnight. I called support again today, they told me to let it run for the rest of the day. Something's broke here. It's not a signal strength issue - my access point is literally right next to it. Support has been extremely rough, not knowing the product or even how to escalate when I can't even use the grill now for several days. One person said it will attempt to download 5 times, then not again, another person said 4 times - then they said it could take up to several weeks to update? What? I can't use my smoker for several weeks? Are you kidding me? This is a complete failure here.
The vacuum system is no better than the 1300. They claim it goes into the bucket, but most of the ash is still in the main floor of the smoker where you have to suck it out anyways just like you did on the 1300. Cleaning is the same, features just the same, and I would say my 1300 maintained more consistent temperatures and less fluctuating temperatures. The XL does heat up much faster which is a plus.
I'm really disappointed in this grill. Once I get this downloading updates issue fixed, I plan on putting it up on the market to sell so that I can go to a different smoker. I have been a Traeger fan for years and always viewed them as the gold standard for pellet smokers, this has really soured my opinion on the grills and their build quality and for my move off of them completely.

This is not only an amazing product but an awesome experience. Traeger hit a home run with this one. Total outdoor kitchen at your fingertips. The food I have cooked is fantastic and makes hosting easy and fun. I cook for others, rarely for myself. To see people enjoy food. It literally is one of the only things left that bring people of different political religious and racial backgrounds together. My adult children love coming over to just hang out and eat. This Traeger is worth every penny—you can’t put a price on memories. Cheers!!

Best Traeger Grill Yet!

This is my third Traeger grill I have purchased. Two smaller grills for camping and tailgating and now the Timberline XL. I was at the Los Angeles County Fair when I saw the XL and just fell in love with it. My sister and I demolished a perfectly good stainless steel built in propane grill in my bbq island to make room for this grill. It took us around 3 hours to demo including removing the stacked stone. Next came assembly of the XL and wow. We both agreed that this has to be the best quality product ever purchased. I have assembled just about everything you can imagine over the years (just about 60 yrs old). So easy to assemble and everything was well made and thought out. Took us around 1 1/2 hours to assemble. Highly recommend the XL. Love Traeger products.
