Wanted a Traeger for a long time, and finally made the purchase. Wanted the Ironwood, but ceramic coated grills is a complete show stopper for me. So I bit the bullet, spent the extra money and went for the Timberline. So far no regrets. Ribs, brisket, wings, chops, and burgers so far have all been a smash hit with everyone!!! I’ll likely never use the side hot plate and it cost a little more than I wanted to spend, simply because I will only buy bbqs, and grills with stainless grills or I wont buy it at all, but in the end, the product it produces is really astounding and I am flat out very impressed!!! This pellet grill is really great and I would buy another one day when this one wears out.
Bought this and extremely disappointed with the temperature regulation. My original timberline varies about 2 degrees. This one varies about 30 to 40 degrees. I own 5 Traegers and this is very disappointing

Hi, and thank you for reviewing the Timberline XL. Although all pellet grills can be expected to fluctuate a little due to the way they work, swings of up to 30 – 40 degrees are certainly excessive. Unless you are using the Super Smoke feature, which is more about maximizing smoke production than precise temperature control, the range should typically fall within 25 degrees in either direction, with the average still being very close to what the grill is set to. But if these extreme swings are occurring during normal cooking, then they should be correctable without much effort. The most common causes for this type of behavior on the new touchscreen versions of the Timberline (and Ironwood) are often related to an improperly installed firepot, outdated firmware, or using foil on the drip tray. However, if these have already been checked, or if you would just like some help checking them, please give Traeger Customer Service a call. One of our agents will go over everything mentioned above, and even some more unlikely possibilities if it turns out to be something else.
I love our Timberline XL ! I believe in bigger, better, more horsepower and a grill loaded with options. My Timberline XL automatically gives me bragging rights for the best smoked meats and cheeses in the neighborhood. The "super smoke" option is an incredible setting that doubles my smoke ring and the flavor of the tasty morsels on my Traeger.
Started off great then went downhill. The grill will no longer connect to Bluetooth or WIFI. The temperature is off now too. The Traeger sales rep said this grill uses 30% less pellets but it seems to use more. Probably because of the temperature fluctuations. I have an older 650 Pro Traeger and I’m glad I kept it because this one is going back. I Really wanted this grill to work but it is too buggy.

Hi, and thank you for reviewing the Timberline XL. Typically, if a grill loses a connection that it had previously maintained then it should simply come down to finding what was changed. Either there was something externally that affected its access to the network, or possibly a change with the grill itself. As for the potential external causes, this is usually related to some modification of the WiFi or phone that the grill was paired to. But regarding the latter, you can easily verify this by trying a different compatible device and seeing if you get the same results. On the grill side, anytime your Traeger drops the connection you’ll always want to go through the Forget Network steps first before trying to reconnect. For the new touchscreen models like the Timberline XL, this is done by going to the Main Menu and selecting WiFIRE connectivity > WiFi Info > Forget Network > Yes. Once done, try the pairing process again. In reference to the temperature and pellet use, for this to occur suddenly after working ok previously is usually indicative of a problem with the pellets. Compromised pellets are the #1 cause of temperature issues, and can be the result moisture absorption, or even dust buildup in the bottom of the hopper. A quick verification or pellet quality is breaking a few between your fingers to see if they either easily crumble apart, break cleanly in half, or something in-between. If it is anything other than a clean break, you may want to try new pellets. But if the above steps don’t work, or you would simply like some help with going through them, please give us a call at the Traeger support line. Not only can one of our agents assist with connecting the grill, but they can also see why your temperature performance has changed and help get it back running the way it should be.
I love this grill! Love the smart phone interface and that I can monitor grill temp, meat temp, pellet level and make changes from across town! Quality construction and my wife says it really looks nice!
I absolutely love my Timberline. It simplifies my grilling. The technology and feathers are next level. The incorporation of the meater probes was a great added touch.
