The top layer is soft so perfect for a side sleeper like myself. Seldom do I sleep on my back, but I noticed that I slept just fine on my back. Coming from a 15+ year old mattress, it's so much better and I wish I would've bought it sooner.

The box it came in seemed roughly handled with the thin tape keeping the box closed nearly ripped off. Besides these downsides, the bed has been great to sleep on so far.

I purchased a new home and wanted new mattresses for my bed. I planned to buy a sleep number bed and never considered a bed in a box. In addition to buying a house, I purchased a consumer report subscription to review items needed for my new home and the reviews of mattresses was overwhelming to say the least. It started me on a three-month in-depth internet review of mattresses which led me to considering the unthinkable… a bed in a box. Once I got over the initial surprise and looked at the Casper reviews and the return policy, what could I lose? I ordered the Casper and it came very quickly. I maneuvered it into my new house without any problems and waited for move-in day. On move-in day, my daughters put together the Zinus (14inch) metal bedframe, and we put the mattresses directly on it. I originally didn’t order the foundation for the bed because it was not a necessity. Once we put it together, we all thought it was too low, so I ordered the foundation to place on top of the frame. During move-in, none of us noticed any type of smell and by the time I actually stayed the night (one-week later), if there had been one, there was no smell at all.
I like a firm mattress but ordered the medium after reading the reviews from others. As others stated, it was not as soft as I thought it would be. It was truly more firm than medium. My sister came to visit over the holidays and she needs a FIRM mattress due to back problems. She agreed that it was firm, but not as firm as she needed, so she slept on my previous mattress which I think could rival sleeping on something labeled “like sleeping on the floor”. I am extremely comfortable sleeping on my Casper. I have not had any trouble falling asleep or staying asleep because of the firmness.
I have enjoyed my bed. As I sleep alone, I can’t tell you what it feels like to have someone get on the bed when I’m in it or if it moves in the process. I didn’t understand when people complained of a bed sleeping hot, but I understand now. I turn my heat down at night, so the room is cool. When the heat turns on approx. 45mins before I get up, I have to come from under the covers because I am HOT and it feels as if it is the mattress. I don’t know if that is really the case because the heat turns on; however, prior to this mattress, this never happened. I uncover for a little bit, get comfortable quickly, and put the covers back on. I remain comfortable for the rest of my sleep.
As others have stated, there are no handles on the bed, but it has not been a deterrent. I had to take the mattress off to put on the foundation on the bedframe, then again when the bed skirt arrived. I could not have done it by myself, but it was no problem with help. My bed is so high, I will have to take the mattress off again to change it out, and don’t anticipate any problems as I will wait for help.
Am I planning to return the bed by day 100… No. If I were to order other mattresses, I would order the Casper in the Soft, as my children prefer sleeping on soft beds.
