Disappointing

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] With all the hype, I thought I would be getting an amazing night’s sleep on my new mattress. Not so. It is just ok, nothing special. The Original is very firm and unyielding, not too much give. I’m thinking of returning it.

We upgraded from the Queen size to the King size of the Casper Original Mattress. We had the Queen size mattress for four years. We needed the King size as our two cattle dog mixes are in bed as well. We all sleep like babies in the bigger bed.

Comfortable but a little hot

My queen size mattress came as scheduled. It was a little heavier than I expected, but not unreasonably heavy. I would recommend having help to unbox it and get it situated on the bed.
I was replacing a high end, but old conventional mattress that my wife suspected of contributing to my lower back issues. I had no objections to the old mattress, it was still comfortable, but a little worn. The comfort on the Casper mattress is similar to what the old mattress with a memory foam topper was. It's a good balance of firmness & support and softness and comfort. I've been sleeping on it for about 3 weeks, and haven't noticed any change in my lower back problems. I fall asleep quickly on it and sleep well initially.
The downside is that is doesn't seem to breathe as well as the old conventional mattress. After about 3 hours, I wake up unpleasantly hot, and have some difficulty getting back to sleep. I have tried sleeping with a thin blanket, or even just a sheet over me, and this lets me sleep a little longer before becoming too hot. I notice that I'm cool under the covers, but still warm against the mattress.
From a pure comfort perspective, this is a fine mattress, but from a temperature/breathability standpoint, it's not really working for me. I'm a big guy and tend to "sleep hot" anyways, but if you're not, it may work very well for you.

Stealth sleeper
