Comfy bed, but cover quickly destroyed with only light wear

We've had our Casper bed for about a year and a half. My greyhound loves the bed—she's all bones, and the mattress has held up well over the time we've had it, providing much needed support to her gangly self. I can't recommend the bed, though—here's why:
Just after the year anniversary of buying the mattress, holes began to appear in the cover around the bumpers. Now the cover is in tatters, and replacing the cover through Casper costs a significant portion of the bed's original cost. My dog doesn't aggressively dig—just paws around before laying down—so this is just from reasonable wear and tear.
I was surprised about the problem with the cover since we've never had a problem with lower end dog beds, and have had them last much longer than the Casper bed for much less cost. I feel trapped into buying an expensive replacement cover that I know will have the same problem a year from now.

For the price it should come put together...it was a pain in the bum to get the bolsters inside the the bed shell!!

We had to get a second dog bed, as our new puppy is simply too rough with our older dog at night, so we have to have her in the bedroom with us now. We decided on the Casper, as she likes to sleep against the arm of the couch, or your leg if she's next to you, so the bolsters seemed like they would be good for her. The first night she gleefully went over and checked out her new bed, and while initially wanting to sleep on our bed, it didn't take much coaxing to get her into hers. Once there, she liked it so much that she never tried a middle of the night stealth operation to get back up on the bed, and, in fact, was snoozing so hard in the morning, that we had to make sure she was ok. She loves it so much, that even during the day, when she will often nap on our bed, she will jump down to hers and finish her snooze there. We've kept it away from the puppy, as she wants to shake it around like a toy, but as far as for the older dog, this should be a good bed for quite some time.

Walter is a Golden Retriever Rescue (see Long Island Golden Retriever Rescue) and he loved his bed when it came in the mail. He could likely use a Large bed, but I got him a Medium because he likes to curl up tight to sleep and we live in a small NYC apartment and every square foot counts. He doesn't seem to mind. Love how easy it is to wash.

We had to buy a second Casper dog bed. Got tired of transferring the bed upstairs at night because our dog only wanted to sleep in the Casper bed. The look on her face is of total comfort and completely different than when she sleeps anywhere else.
