I have no issues with the elastic since these are only intended for a day of use at most. I often use mine two or three 8-9 hour days before the elastic breaks. They've never broken at the attachment points to the mask, so I just tie the ends back together if I need to. I pay attention to the seal against my face, and it seems to remain sealed even on the second or third day.
The weakness of the mask lies in breakage of yellow straps which shears on approximately 10 uses which I think is more because of packaging defect as 20 numbers are crammed and this puts pressure on the straps by folding them thereby making them weak at those points leading to shears. It gives a good tight fit until it shears. Strap material has to be changed to give it a longer life. I am using these masks since the outbreak of coronavirus.
Much like the other reviewers, I have had a problem with the straps breaking after a day or two of use. The older version of the strap was much more durable and could be worn as long as needed without breakage. Hoping they return to the previous strap material soon, as this case isn't going to last me very long at the rate these break.

Even with stretching the elastic a lot (often breaking it) these masks are impossibly tight to wear. I have never had any similar problem with other 3M disposable masks. 3M knows how to use fabric covered elastic on masks to do this well, why did they have to switch to this awful strap material (which also less easy to slide over you hair).

I have used 3M products for years and never had a fit problem. I am a size medium but I could not find a box of medium so I decided to purchase the one size fits most box. Apparently most people are a size small because these masks have to be on the tip of my nose to go over my chin. The straps did not break for me after pre-stretching but I can see where others can run into this problem because the straps do not stretch evenly. If you are not careful you can over stretch a section and risk breakage.

I could be working on a patient when the straps break. This is inconvenient and poses a safety hazard because the respirator seal is compromised. I have tried to stretch out the straps but doing so doesn't help.
