How does flex dispense work?

So although I like this washer. How the heck does flex dispense work?! When I put detergent into the custom add the app won't let me select detergent for anything but prewash. If I put it in detergent it uses all the detergent. How do I set up flex dispense so that I can mass add detergent and have it dispense gradually? It just seems like all the detergent gets used. There's no button on the machine and the app won't let me turn on flex dispense. I've called customer service they don't know. Someone help!
Will edit my review to recommend once someone at get can explain flex dispense to me

Product does a good job of washing clothes. Had problems with washing blankets/bedspreads with unit being off balance. Very frustrating.

We're happy you like the look and the way your washer washes. We understand that you had some problems with balancing, and we'd like to offer some helpful information.
If an out-of-balance condition is detected by the machine, the Spin light will blink during the remaining part of the cycle and will stay lit for a short time after cycle completion. When this happens, the washer is taking actions to correct the out-of-balance condition and finish the cycle normally. In some cases, the washer may not be able to balance the load and spin up to full speed. If you notice the load is wetter than normal at the end of the cycle, we recommend redistributing the load evenly in the wash basket and running a Drain & Spin cycle.

OK WASHER but came with a terrible dryer

This washer is ok, but lacked some features like on demand water to rinse into the tub like some other lines. decided to try it since it had an agitator. seemed to clean well but the dryer it was paired with is awful. Also because it was a smart washer, many of the buttons like delicate or quick wash were APP only and sometimes that's just not convenient to use a phone and you can't do that with this washer.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
