For being the 'step down' from the more expensive Garmin GPS watches, the Instinct 2 has everything I need and a little more. Plenty of of health metrics and activity tracking. The battery does drop fairly fast while tracking GPS activities but otherwise doesn't need much charging. Would recommend as long as you aren't wanting a touchscreen and maps on screen.

Use it to track my training (bike, swim, lift, hike, .) - easy to customize sports to track. Like the feel - and band has lots of small adjustments making fit adjustment a snap - not too loose or tight.
Use to track hiking while volunteer patrolling with forest service - keeping track of both miles hiked and vertical feet.
Holds a charge pretty well even when tracking sports - but depends on how much you're trying to track. Solar seems to help but doesn't remove need to recharge.
Will test expedition mode next month on 21 day Grand Canyon float.

My second instinct

I had the first generation instinct that was great but this current generation is superior. The addition of training tools and more metrics (like pulse ox, VO2, etc) is a bit overwhelming, coming from the original instinct model. However, they are all easy to learn and use, and you always have the option to not utilize them. I like that Garmin added additional features to the instinct without changing it's form factor and bulletproof construction.

Over all its packed with features, it does everything i want it to,...however... it eat battery and doesnt recharge as fast as posted. The fix for this is putting it into sleep(or non smart watch mode) unless you need it. I wish it also had kinetic charging as a redundancy to the solar system. The weight is great, very light for as feature packed as it is and gps works wonderfully better than youd think possible. Amd the ui on the app is pretty good, could use alittle more polish.

The battery life is fantastic, you can the solar works well too. Still getting used to some of the controls, but it has everything I liked from my Apple Watch, but I don't have to charge it every night and it's way more durable.

Fist of all the watch is durable. I work on a helicopter doing hoist based rescue and need something I can depend on. The watch has taken a beating and can still tell me health metrics at the end of the day. I'm an avid runner and weightlifter and this watch provides me all the metrics I'm interested in. The watch is also lightweight, looks good and has great battery life. But with confidence.
