Great platform, software lacking

I love my Instinct 2. I purchased the solar option, however I don't think it adds much. Also, the hardware is great, software seems to be lacking.
Things I enjoy: Sleep tracking and body battery appear to match how I'm feeling, activity tracking is pretty cool, accurate gps, return to start, Backcountry skiing activity
Things I think can be implemented better: Apple iWatch can detect you started an activity and ask if you want to track that activity, would be nice Garmin. I'm new to lap swimming, my watch doesn't adequately track distance (I know I don't have a perfect stroke, I'm new). Trying the Garmin Coach (which I'm stoked about) and it can't understand that the benchmark run I did (which was loaded to my watch and told me what to do) was the benchmark run the app needs me to do for coaching.
Overall, I love having the watch. I recommend buying one. But, Garmin, please step up your software game, it feels like an afterthought.

I've always stayed away from smartwatches because of the durability and gigantic size, but this one is solid and fits my wrist well! I love the simplicity of this watch and all the features that it includes. This has already helped me, in conjunction with the Garmin Connect app, with my workouts and aerobic training/maintenance. The GPS features and "apps" give me peace of mind for in-the-field use, and I look forward to using this during hunting season as well.

The garmin instinct solar 2 has done everything that I have asked it to do. I use it to record my hikes and cycling workouts. It does a great job recording my activities in in the deep woods. The built in solar charging extends the battery life. On two separate occasions I have been able to record two days of gps activity without recharging. My only issue is that it is hard to read in low light.

Great Product

I have had the watch for the better part of a year. I haven't had any issues.Great product. Extremely durable and the battery lasts forever. I have gone a total of 3 weeks without charging and the watch functions without any issues. It also has the ability to display SMS messages. For other LEOs, it has a great haptic feedback when it's trying to notify the user, which is great when you need to be absolutely quiet or be discreet. And ultimately it's inexpensive, which is great for new comers to garmin prodcuts

Great watch!

This watch has served me well for about the last year. I have used it swimming, biking, running, hiking and all the day to day uses. The only downside I had to say about it is how it is a black and white screen. It has great battery life. The gps is also outstanding when hiking and swimming. This product is great for beginners and experts who need a more affordable watch that can do it all! I would recommend this watch to anyone!

This is the watch I did not take back

I tried a few smartwatches, and almost gave up. This one has the features, it's classy/athletic/durable/capable. There's a bit of a learning curve- like where are all the features? How do I get to them easily? Patience. All of a sudden the menus made sense and now it seems very intuitive- like any technology. Don't give up on this one, and don't feel bad you can't swipe your watch face like all the hipsters- this watch face is built for durability, and it looks cool when you can operate the functions by feel- there are 5 buttons to figure out but don't worry, it will come. There are a few video online by users to describe the depths of the functions, which are worth the 38 minutes to view, as you work through your own new watch. Oh, and the most interesting part is when you sync and download and discover how much your watch knows about you. It's worth knowing, leave your bluetooth on. This watch has so far motivated me to get out and exercise more than I have for months with a busy inside job, thanks Garmin for helping me become more outdoors-ey.

Excellent Wearable for Human Performance Thesis

I purchased these watches for my participants of a thesis regarding nutrition and long-distance hiking. While thru-hiking on the Appalachian Trail, participants stated they were easy to use, lightweight, and recharged during lunch. With Connect app, I was able to track their variables remotely, when they synced weekly. Variables were accurate and easy to plug into total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) equations. I got the Master's, they got a great watch. Win, win!
