I had your previous motorized 4 slice motorized toaster and the bagel setting only toasted the one cut side of the bagel. This one toasts both sides when bagel has been selected. Is this a defect? What is the difference with bagel selected from any other bread type? In fact why have all those bread types? Regular two sided toast or bagel toasting one side.

Replacing an existing older model with the newer technology model. Over all early impressions are favorable. Uniformity of the toast is OK but not significantly better than lower cost toasters. Happy with the purchase but if your looking for the wow factor you might be disappointed.
