10 years later and it's time for another

I bought the original version of this strap almost exactly 10 years ago. As of this year the rubber on the strap is breaking down and starting to leave streaks on my shirts. The remainder of the strap is still in nearly new condition, ending having traveled across the world seval times, hundreds of not thousands of events and photography gigs, etc. Looking forward to the latest version to arrive, I'm sure it will be even better!

Good build, flexible use, almost too smooth?

I bought this to address the issues I was having with my "comes with the camera" factory strap. My chief complaints of that factory strap were that it was not long enough to be worn cross-body, could only attach to the default camera attachment points at each top edge, and this meant that my camera always hung at belt-buckle height with the lens facing forward, where it would bang into things as I moved about. I didn't mind carrying from my neck most of the time, but on days where I carried my camera all day, I wanted to be able to mix it up. Shoulder carry was an option, but it didn't really stay put.
The Slide strap from Peak Design claimed to address all of these issues, which is why I gave it a shot. After about a week of regular use, I would say it delivers on 96% of what it claims. The build quality appears to be really solid. The strap material feels like a seatbelt, and the padded strap is a nice touch. Comfort is much better than my factory strap. Attachment points feel solid, and I have complete faith in the strap to hold my gear securely. The longer length allows for cross-body carry, which has become my go-to method as it keeps my camera and lens at or behind my hip when not in active use, which I find far more convenient, and the smooth strap material slides nicely across my shirt for easy access when I want to lift the camera to my eye.
The only issues I could come up with as potential negatives are the tradeoffs you get with having such a smooth, slip-slidey strap. Example (1), the little "grip strips" on the backside of the strap aren't terribly effective at stopping the slip-slide effect, and I still have issues with the camera sliding off my shoulder if I shoulder carry on the same-side shoulder. This is really the only area where I feel the product didn't deliver as marketed. The good news is that now that I can cross-body carry, I no longer need to carry same-side shoulder, so this shouldn't cause many issues for me. Similarly, for example (2), when cross-body carrying, the strap has a similar tendency to slide UP the shoulder, causing the thin edge to rub against my neck above my shirt colar, which began to bother me after a few hours of carry. My solution was to just keep a hand on the strap at my chest and apply a slight downward pressure to keep the strap securely on my shirt and off of my neck. It's not ideal, but this is still a lot more comfortable than having a strap constantly around my neck like I did with my factory strap.
Even better than the strap itself are the included anchors, which I feel are the real stars of the show. I love that they are included with the strap, and that you get four of them. I found myself using three of the four right away on day 1. They might be a little silly looking, dangling off the camera at various points when not in use, but I love how easy they are to use, and the flexibility they afford. I can now attach at up to three different points on the camera body itself, ensuring I can carry with the lens-facing down or behind my hip as needed. This has been a game-changer for me. Plus, if I can briefly plug another PD product in this review, I keep a Peak Design standard plate (not included, purchased separately) attached to the lens foot of my 100-500mm lens. This means I can finally carry my "big rig" comfortably and hands-free using this strap/plate combo, which was not an option previously, AND my kit remains compatible with my (other brand) quick release tripod head without having to swap plates.
Overall, I'd score this a 9.6 out of 10. Not perfect, but a huge improvement over what I had before. I would definitely recommend the Slide!

Great for hybrid shooters

I'm primarily a documentary filmmaker, shooting hand-held with a Lumix GH7. There are occasions, such as concerts, when I need to use a monopod or even a tripod and conventional straps get in the way and can snag on objects in the dark. The slide system allows me to quickly and easily free the camera from the strap. I've been looking for this for ages, delighted to find it!

The Perfect Strap!
on April 5, 2020

I have been an amateur photographer from back in the 35mm film days. Now at 72 years old it is a little more difficult to take the long hikes than it used to be. I typically carry a full frame camera with a 70-200 attached and it gets a lot heavier than it used to. I have been looking for a strap that would provide the comfort I needed and at the same time make it easy to pull my camera up for a shot. I tried many and even tried making my own. BUt the Peak Design SLide is everything I have been searching for. The ability to pop the strap off my full frame and put it on my crop body in a matter of seconds is just icing on the cake. I have found my strap!

Loved it until "grippy side" ruined some shirts
on August 17, 2021

I purchased two Slide camera straps and was quite happy with them until I realized that it was the "grippy side" that was melting and ruining shirts. Initially, I thought something else was ruining my shirts, but finally I narrowed it down to the rubber from the "grippy side." Now I am looking for replacement straps that don't have melting rubber, but will use the Peak Design attachments.

Comfortable but not rugged for outdoor...

After 3 years of use carrying cameras and big lenses from Antarctica shore to remote tropical Islands what I can say is : 1. the fabric connection between the sling and the anchor point is tearing apart and will likely soon break, hopefully my camera won't fall with it... 2. The metal spring-like part of the anchoring system is rusted, since the black paint felt due to friction, stainless steel would have been a better choice of material for this part.
Just be aware it's a very comfortable and smart sling system but definitely not rugged enough if you are a professional wildlife/outdoor filmmaker, as intensive use will quickly damage it. I'll soon have to replace it but I'll likely choose a military-grade sling system this time.

What to expect with the Peak Design Slide

The Peak Design Slide is a surprisingly useful camera strap. The wide strap design is one of the best experiences I have had. It doesn't fatigue your shoulder or neck. I also really enjoy the ease of how smooth it is to adjust the strap length. I ride my bike a lot with my camera so it's nice to be able to secure it when I'm riding and loosen the strap when I see a shot. By far the best part of this package is all the accessories you get. It's nice to be able to play with how you personally like to secure the camera. It's great to have it all there so you don't need to buy additional things that might not work in the long run for your shooting style.

Seems to be great

I owned three of the old slides which I decided were better than my old Black Rapid. The only issue with the old slides is that they marked my clothing with black marks that cannot be removed. The marks are each about 10 " and the width of the old slide strap. I now have three new slides and so far (after three weeks of heavy use) no problems with black marks on my clothing. Peak Design was very good to work with after I sent photos of some of clothing that had been damaged. So far - great experience. 4 stars instead of 5 because of the experience with the old slide. Check your clothing if you have the old slide strap.
