Needs better quality control of design issue

I am a big fan of the Creator Export line and when I saw this released I ordered right away. The color is awesome and I was excited to get towards the end. Upon completion the roof has a gap up front and could not figure what the issue was. I reviewed the instructions in detail and even rebuilt bag #10 and #11 and for the life of me, can get the roof to sit flush. So my excitement to finish resulted in a bit of frustration and my OCD is getting the better of me. I even took off the canopy cloth to see if that was causing it and still has a gap Only option is to display with roof open.
I would recommend this to a friend!

My least favorite set. Ever.

I was so, so, SO excited to get this set, I ordered it the day it was released. I have the red LEGO bus too, which I keep on display. I had similar expectations for this set. Sadly, it was a disappointment.
Here are my goods and bads:
GOOD: It took a few days to build (1-2 hours a day). The interior looked slick. The sliding door was pretty cool—that actually worked well.

BAD: nothing else worked as I hoped. The engine bay was impossible to open. The engine was nothing special to look at (unlike the red bus). The front doors were not anchored very well, so super flimsy. The bumpers fell off every time I so much as looked at the vehicle. The steering mechanism that connected to the steering wheel kept dislodging (the front wheel steering kind of stayed connected). The roof seemed way over built—not sure why so much engineering went into making a simple pop-up (which didn’t close very well). The scale was off too—such a big vehicle compared to the red bus or even the Jeep Wrangler.
And perhaps the saddest part—it just doesn’t look like a VW bus. We have one parked in our driveway, so I’m very familiar with the shape. This wasn’t it. Something was off in the boxiness of front end and the awkward roof line. The red LEGO bus was perfectly shaped. This one, not so much.
I’m sorry to report—this is my least favorite LEGO set. Ever. :(

Don't bother spend your money better than I did!

This set is in one word awful. I have assembled dozens of Lego vehicles including Technic and more than 300 Sets and this is by far the worst one. The model is EXTREMELY fragile when attempting to get pieces tight. The side panels, the engine door ( and placement) the engine itself is insanely poor in it fragility ( especially as tight an area your forced to place it in) the engine itself doesn't snap in place, you need to put 1x8 tile to hold it in. The "bumpers" dont touch them heavier than a pinky or will fall off/ or apart. The only positive I can say is my local lego resale store will give me about 75% of its price, which it going there very soon. I am embarrassed to have spent that much money for this, and display this in my collection

Overall great addition to my collection

I was very excited about this van and got it the day it came out! Overall, it is a great addition to my collection. The build process was a little clunky and there were a few times I had to go back because while the logic was clear the parts seemed not to go smoothly in. I also wish it was more fun and had a little more details inside. The set feels more focused on the car functionality vs. fun play. overall, I would recommend it though.

Disappointed

There were several issues. The camper did not stay together as well as other sets. The roof was poorly designed and the rear door was easily dislodged. It felt like the canvas top would tear if stretched into place. It was not a pleasant build experience.

Yay to Meh

As a lover of most things Lego, I was super excited when this model became available for purchase. I started to build it and around Bag 6 things started going down hill. Like most reviewers, I find the engine door in the back to be extremely finicky. All other doors/hinged parts are EXTREMELY fragile. I had to finagle the hood to get it to sit in place correctly and there is still a slight gap when I "close" it. It is quite nice to look at, but my children - simply by touching it - have already broke it several times... and it is NOT easy to go back and fix. Overall, the value for the cost is not there. Not to mention that one piece was missing from one of my bags (luckily we have plenty of spare parts at home that I was able to find what I needed). Unfortunately, I would not recommend this build.

Beautiful Set

So I had to write a review because of all of the other reviews. I was skeptical of buying this set but I’m a huge fan of the Lego cars so I bought it. I had zero problems putting this set together. I did not experience any of the difficulties expressed in other reviews.
This van is a big step up from the first Lego VW Camper Van. It’s literally bigger, the interior is more detailed and cleaner than the first. The front wheels turn side to side. The pop up camper function is amazing. The only complaints I would have are: the curtains aren’t as good as the first van and the engine compartment opening is tiny. Otherwise I really enjoyed the build and this will go well with my growing collection.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not worth the money and a huge miss for Lego

I’m a huge fan of Lego and have just about every space and vehicle kit put out over the last decade including the first VW Bus they put out.
Unfortunately my excitement for this set waned by bag 4 when it was clear this set didn’t meet the normal high quality standards of Lego sets. This set sacrificed durability and sturdiness for aesthetics and is the most fragile set ive ever built. The engine won’t stay in, the door falls off, the bumpers fall off, the roof is a disaster, and I found myself so irritated with the entire build that only wanted to finish so I didn’t have to deal with it anymore.
I honestly have no idea how this kit made it to market as it is. It’s not at all like any other kit I’ve assembled and needs to be yanked from shelves and redesigned. If I could get a refund for this kit I absolutely would.
