A fun set for the more experienced builder

Definitely one of my favorite builds this year. Never repetitive or boring. Highly recommend it. Looks great too.

Nice van with some flaws

I had the original VW bus and I was disappointed to find that this set is not the same scale as the last. This one is noticeably larger than the original. I have to agree with other reviewers, some parts are flimsy. The back door for example comes apart each time I try to open it. The back engine compartment door will not open without force and it can take some effort to close as well. Overall, this VW bus is not as well constructed as the last. Also, the top camper will not fully close despite multiple rework and there is a gap. I just opted to display it open.

Looks great, but very fragile
on August 26, 2021

While first building this set, it was going great and was loving it. However nearing the end, and putting larger parts on, I got to see how fragile it started to become. The front bumper continuously falls off and both rear doors hardly ever stay in 1 piece. The engine hatch is extremely hard to open and very easy to break. The rear hatch above it opens easily, but stuffers from a poor, fragile design which also falls apart with ease. Connecting the roof to the rest of the model is very difficult and near impossible to do without breaking another piece of the set off. Be careful pressing parts onto the bus because you will break something else off. However, the sliding door works great and I haven't had any problems with it. I love buying Lego car models and have loved every one. Sadly, I can't recommend this set when there's better car sets available right now. Once the Camper is built however, it does look very nice and I love the details inside including the fridge and table.
I usually leave 4-5 star reviews on all the sets I buy but unfortunately this one didn't impress me.

We're sorry to hear you're having trouble keeping your new T2 Camper Van set together. Sometimes there may be pieces just a little off from where they should be. You’ll also want to make sure that all the pieces are pressed tightly together. If that's all set, please get in touch at LEGO.build/Service-BV so we can get more information for our quality team!

Good Build with a Few Needed Adjustments
on August 24, 2021

The set was fun to build at first. I enjoyed the details of the kitchen area, the sliding van door, as well as the Technic integration.
I had to curb my expectations, as this is not a Technic set, therefore I don't feel the quality and sturdiness should be held to the same standard. That said, certain parts of this build were fragile and fell apart quite often.
Areas that could use a little design improvement are the back hatch (motor and main cabin) and the front bumper.
Again, minus the fragile parts, I enjoyed this build. I do feel it's overpriced, as my Technic Land Rover Defender was cheaper and bigger.

Fun build, but need to be fastidious

This is a great vehicle build. I really love the sets that have clever details and are actually a little challenging, and the Camper Van fits the bill. I did see others having issues, but with a little tucking and slight push, my camper top shuts flat. I am less happy about the rather flimsy front end assembly, and for that reason I gave the playability 4-star's. I did add a slight mod to the top to allow for a roof rack for the surfboard and extra support for the chairs!

One legendary and iconic vehicle. 7+ hours to build. 2207 Lego bricks. One amazing atmospheric sunset at Malibu, CA. One happy 31-years-old kid.

Exactly what I wanted!

This model is excellent. It was my first experience with technic to create working steering, but I figured it out easily and it was a great added touch. It looks great with my other VW vehicles (or will when I fix the red T1 bus that someone dropped). I like that it is a slightly different color of blue than the Beetle, too!
I didn't have any issues with being unable to follow the directions, or any parts of this build being too delicate or not fitting together. The front bumper may fall off if handled too roughly, but I know to not pick it up by the front and all is good. The technic on my roof mechanism works great as well, so the roof will fold down flat.
I'm sorry that other people had issues with this build, but I encourage you to not give up! Take it apart and try again - and you'll love it!

SO disappointed
on November 11, 2021

I have looked through so many reviews and found the comments below 100% echoed what I had to say! I was so excited to start this and initially all was well by bag 8 my excitement was replaced with sheer exasperation! I loved making the fiat 500 and enjoyed it throughout and I believed I would have the same experience with this - if only! The main points others have made that I agree with 100% are:-
As other 1 star reviewers have said, this model is too fragile. Especially the front. Every time I try to add a hefty piece the whole lot falls apart. I am so disappointed and frustrated! building the front of the vehicle had pieces that popped off when you tried to secure other parts
All other doors/hinged parts are EXTREMELY fragile
NOTHING stays together. You go to add the next steps and something falls off. Or in this case, multiple things fall off.
tried to fit dashboard/windscreen section and whole front fell off and subsequent (failed) attempt to rescue the situation, really hard to rebuild because you can’t push on anything without it breaking
Be careful pressing parts onto the bus because you will break something else off! Very flimsy and unstable especially when installing it. So much so I though that I must have gone wrong somewhere and decided to take it apart and try again. But no, it was still flimsy and unstable
The reassuring click of the brick just didn't seem to be there with this set.
No doubt Lego will say it’s my build and to recheck everything but as per the point above there is no reassuring ‘click’ and as it is so fragile you date not use any force!
Can I ask Lego to look at the common issues continually raised by customers and address them.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
