Lackluster quality assurance

The overall finished model looks great.
Playability is very poor and I think this is a shelf piece for sure. The whole front end is so fragile. The bumper falls off effortlessly, the top of the windshield relies on two 1x1s to hold together the top/two sides and windshield. Which is very frustrating to put together. The sliding door is weak too just one pin stud on top and buttom running in a track. The engine door isVERY tight. I like any playability but I feel like it’ll shatter the back end, I can visibly see the pieces flex.
The pop up roof is well designed (maybe overly) but the fabric is cut wrong in the front its cut down and you can see into the technic workings, if the fabric continued from the pins on either side across the front it would have hid everything.
The build was ok, very little repetitive things. It was easy to follow even the technic parts. Only thing that was bad is putting the front together. I feel like Lego really cheaped out with the printed elements vs stickers. Even the rear Volkswagen emblem is a sticker. I can see the optional decorations being stickers and even interior stuff, that makes sense. But exterior detail should be printed, especially since Lego didn’t get a color match. These stickers stick out like a sore thumb. Two different colors. I hated placing them, I expect better from Lego. If it was just one thing that would be different but this model has so many annoyances it’s unexceptionable. I really think this one needs to be pulled and retooled and buyers should get an addendum set of parts to fix all the issues.

Terrific

Don't know what all the 1 stars and complaining is about I had NO issues. This was my 3rd build, Harly bike and VW T1 the 1st two and all went together perfectly with NO problems. I have since built the fiat and that was great also. Installed light kits in all of them. Some people just like to complain!

Wonderful set

I love this set so much I have it sitting next to my Lego type writer and the sand green and blue looks great together. Wonderful building experience with the roof being a challenge to get perfect. I had a small gap when it was pushed down but I re built it reading the instructions very carefully and it fits great.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Worth the money!

Don’t be hesitant by all the negative reviews, I myself was I’m not going to lie. But I’m super glad I Got this set. If you can take 1 thing from this review is, take your time with the build. It’s not a race. Enjoy the building process. Yes towards the last bag or 2, it’s true that pieces can come off while your putting other parts on. Just take your time figure out why the pieces are coming off and gently put the parts into place. I’m no expert builder at all!! This was actually my 3rd Lego set ever putting together, if I can do it y’all can too! Enjoy the build!

The red bus is much better

Between this one and the older red split window the latter is definitely more satisfying to build and makes for a better display. This is gets pretty fiddly as you build so if you’re not careful certain pieces can fall apart while you trying to build so it can be frustrating feeling like you need a third hand. The most disappointing is the canvas on the pop top doesn’t meet the top with a huge gap. It looks incomplete or built wrong so I eventually just took it off display. I’ve never done that before! There are some cool Easter eggs for the builder that no one else will ever see so that’s a nice feature but all in all, I only recommend this to diehard VW fans. And btw the this is larger than the red one also making it an odd display

Have seen other reviews talking about design flaw that almost swayed me from purchasing. But no design flaws. Just inexperienced builders blaming the design instead of them figuring out what they messed up. Top/doors/ etc work perfect for me.

Loved the set- had a blast putting it together. All pieces fit together fine, not sure why other reviewers mentioned the roof not being flush as it fits fine. Highly recommend!
