The Groovy Minibus

This was quite a fun build ... The mechanics for the roof were quite fun to assemble, although a bit of a 'rube-goldberg'! Everything went togethewr nicely, and like a real VW, this thing is built like a tank.
#5 in the vehicle collection.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not terrible, but...

Not sure why others are having issues with this being "fragile" while building. It wasn't any more fragile than the hundreds of other builds I've done. The door to access the engine IS a little tough to open, and you've just got a single stud to grab onto when trying, which often comes off.
I did have to stop shortly after I began building, because in bag #3, I was supposed to get two 1x6 technic pieces, but one of the two wasn't technic. LEGO did send the missing piece, but it took close to two weeks to receive.
Lastly, I hate that there are so many white pieces. Even if left out of the sun, the white plastic they've been using recently yellow very badly after just a year or two just being exposed to air. My Star Wars Snowspeeder, and the Solo Millennium Falcon, look horrible, and I can only imagine this will look just as bad in a year or two.

Disappointed that Lego wasted a design on another vw van when they’ve already done a van and the red one is far superior to this build. Makes zero sense.

Disappointing on every level. Poorly thought out product. Great concept with pop top and camping interior but very poor execution. Probably my least favorite build to date. This thing is going to fall apart on you repeatedly during build. No play value, display only.

Most expensive fail I have bought from Lego.

This is one of the flimsiest and backward builds I have ever made. Before Lego tells me to rebuild it, we have. The back hatch is the worst most flimsy design it falls apart each time you touch it. And the top only fits with pieces removed. As the story goes this is a Lego build of the gentleman who designs it. I hope that he spent more time on the actual VW owns than this frustrating expensive miss. I'm embarrassed for Lego honestly.

Absolute Worst Set

Have built quite a few advanced lego sets recently - this is absolutely the worst set - rebuilt the back and front ends many times but set falls apart if you look at it. Thrown in the trash!

Classic VW T2

Love the aesthetics of set. Overall really enjoyed the build and was satisfied with the value.
I have the other two more recent VW sets and one thing that kind of bugs me is they are all slightly different scales… it’s much more noticeable with the original VW red bus set standing next to this new T2 set (see pics).
Similar to other reviews I did find the roof fit challenging and it does not mate perfectly, despite thorough review of the construction.

Fragile BUT Beautiful

Truth: This build is flawed. But honestly, that's what makes it great. It has great scale and better solutions for space management than the T1. Its complexity and/or flaws make it challenging to build while making you consider alterations that you might make to improve the design. I appreciate its design and execution, and I can also acknowledge its flaws. The build makes it less a toy and more of a showcase piece, but what do I care. I lego because I love to build, think with an engineer's mind, and consider innovation. This build may seem less precise, but it in turn is more stimulating. Lego at its best is a project that makes you think!
I would recommend this to a friend!
