I love the LAAT-Gunship... has been my favorite ever since I was a kid. Now, due to some of the negative reviews, I was a bit skeptical to purchase this over the Razor Crest UCS for this May the 4th sale. I bit the laser from Rex's blaster, and boy am I glad i bought this! This build is superb! I am taking my time building it, and some of the negative reviews should be taken back, because they clearly cannot think outside the box... *gApS?!* *SpAcEs?*... take your time building this behemoth, and you will not be disappointed having this legendary ship as part of your collection. Oh and one more controversial thing... I like the Phantom Menance so take this review with what you will.

This is an amazing set! I've had previous gunships, but this UCS is amazing! Great detail, build experience, and overall set. I'd definitely recommend this.

Looks Great... until it falls apart

Something to mention, this gunships purpose is not to be played with often, but rather as a display piece. With that in mind, I still consider the build's instability to be a huge issue. Simply transporting it can lead to the bottom breaking or the top of it as well. The sheer size of it alone makes the build difficult to find space for, but its weight isn't supported strongly enough. Based off past Republic gunships, I think something smaller would be ideal because a ship like this is something that should be a play set. A better lego set I think would be something like the AT-TE. If this set was at that price/size, and had 5 clone troopers instead of the one we got, I think the set would be a way more popular set. If you're on the fence about buying this set, only buy it if you intend to keep it in one spot it's whole life. Otherwise, your money would be better spent on multiple smaller sets. My personal favourite is the AT-TE, or the small fighter tank with Mace Windu. There is also a rumored Republic Gunship set, but that one would likely be a corusant guard version so not as versitle for mocks. If I were considering this set, I'd wait til it goes on sale or I'd buy bulk parts to replicate the smaller set.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The UCS gunship is a very good set. I'm very pleased that lego is finally listening to their audience. Although there was a lot of criticism for this set, I think it is exaggerated. I love the Republic Gunship, and the designers captured the look near perfection. The one caveat was the misalignment with the doors, and the body. Other than that I absolutely love it.

20 yeas ago as a kid, I dreamed that Lego would make a UCS Republic Gunship, so I didn't hesitate one second to vote for this set when the poll was announced.
The model itself is fantastic, but even with my sky high expectations, what I didn't expect was how fun the build experience was. It starts with the base, which is already very large. Then you add a boom to extend to the back that almost doubles the length, and then the wings that are each almost as long as the ship itself! The experience of over time realizing over and over just how ginormous the model is was very satisfying and enjoyable.
The instructions were also very intelligently designed. Almost every step adds just 2-6 pieces. That makes it much easier to keep going and gives the build momentum, which really helps with such a lengthy build. It was like the Lego version of a page turner! I couldn't stop building!
In 25 years of building lego sets, I've never had as much fun building a set as I did with the UCS Republic Gunship. Would highly recommend this set.

First off, this is by far one of the most beautiful sets I have seen from the Lego Star Wars franchise. The designers really hit the mark with this Gunship and it’s display model, bravo to them, truly. My only complaint was not only the mini figures that were included, but of the comments designers made regarding lego fans. “We thought that the Lego Star Wars Fans just saw a yellow clone”? The fans are a bit outraged by how the designers have belittled their fan base because of comments like this, especially on a UCS Set. Little details will go a long way, and though I will continue to be a consumer and support the brand, the undermining of lego fans is something that hopefully fades soon. Once again, very VERY beautiful gunship. This is absolutely worth every penny, and was actually surprised at how great the price was! Thank you LEGO for listening to the fans in this regard, and I cannot wait for more projects in the future!
