It took about fifteen minutes to read the instruction manual and put the parts together. You do need a phililps screwdriver (not supplied) to tighten two phillips screws. On operation, fairly quiet even when chipping sticks. Mulch is great put it everywhere save you money on buying it. Some sticks got stuck, turn-off unit, unplug and clean it out. Make sure you wear googles or face sheild, work gloves, safety first. Works for me.

Better than my original Expectations

It came in a small box and was easy enough to put together. Weighs about as much as a large stand up vacuum and has about the same footprint. started it up and noticed it was way quieter than i also expected. Due to some heavy winds, i had a pile of branches about 8ft by 4ft and 4ft high. got through all of it in about a couple hours. HELPFUL TIPS: 1. straight limbs are easiest, and due to the opening on top, there is some prep work. Had i know this from the get go, i would have done things a bit different and saved some time. also leaves and foliage do nothing but get this thing stuck. 2. it has a sorta auto feed which to be honest just bites off more than it can chew. so holding the branch and rotating it helps immensely and goes much faster than a just push it down. 3. pushing down the first branch with the following one is better than the plastic push paddle which i found useless. CONS: When you get a jam, and it happened less than i thought but still inevitable, the stupid knob holding the chassis together. Its a machine bolt with the tightest thread imaginable, meaning you will be turning that thing for 5 minutes to undo a jam. If this had a clamp or one twist type scenario i would have given it 5 stars.
The product description says that it can handle branches up to 1.5 inches in diameter. The problem is that you really cannot trim the branch down to that size even if you cut off side branches as close as possible plus the branches will not be straight. So, the practical limit is about 1 inch.

The product is excellent I did about 6 hours of chipping last year with no issues. So now I wanted to flip the blades. OH MY GOD what a hassle. I soaked the bolts for 4 days in Penetrating oil after taking the cutter head off. Bellow is my response to another person having the same issue I agree with you on this %1000. I ended up taking the cutter head off putting it into a vice and tried again with their allen wrench. My neighbor(who went in half on the shredder) looked closely at the bolt heads and it looks more like a torque head. We found one that fitted better than the Allen wrench attached it to a ratchet and that too took some muscle but got all but one off because the one we can't get off the head is striped due to the inadequate Allen wrench. So now I'm ordering a new cutter head with the bolts, but they are both backed ordered.

Follow the guidelines for use!

Although the chipper worked extremely well, I had to order a replacement (the same model). My adult nephew, who was helping me with yard work, burned out the motor by stuffing as many branches as the opening would accommodate and branches over 1.5" all as fast as he could. I told him to stop, but he said "I'm in a hurry". When I saw the motor smoking I had to physically stop him. The machine would not start after that. Moral of the story: pay attention to the guidelines for use and the chipper will be your "best friend" for years!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Sun Joe CJ601E Electric Wood Chipper is a nice compact size, but a powerful machine. It made my spring cleanup much easier and saved me money on the first use by turning branches, twigs, and other yard waste into nutrient-rich mulch and compost. The best features of this chipper are its powerful motor, which delivers 14 amps of power to quickly and efficiently chop up branches up to 1.5 inches thick. This chipper also has a safety hopper that prevents debris from flying out while you work. The compact design makes it easy to move and store when not in use. Overall, this Sun Joe CJ601E Electric Wood Chipper is a great choice for anyone looking for a compact and efficient chipper that is easy to use and maintain. It's sure to help you keep your yard looking clean and tidy.
