Not a fan of the parts for this pump

I love the actual pump itself, it’s the parts that have me considering trying another brand. With this setup there seems to be a lot of lost milk in all the parts and a pain to clean. Wish I could use the parts from my in style I have, I didn’t loose as much milk and I’m a mom who needs every drop I can get.

Display bothers me

I just had it after returning symphony. The experience with sonata is not as quiet or smooth as symphony offered, but I didn’t expect it to be as good as symphony. After using it around 4 times, fair to speak, it really did a decent job in pumping. However, the display really bothers me not only because of the blurry clock. The clock part, I can still tolerate it and make a guess. But, I have no way to guess my battery percentage. No matter how full my battery is charged or down to the point automatically shuts down, it is always showing full on the display. It is to say it is missing the function of checking battery percentage. It force me to check on my cellphone, but the Bluetooth is not connecting slow and sometimes cannot be connected to the phone. :/

Hospital performance!

I absolutely love my Sonata! I had to rent the Symphony for my first pregnancy because the PISA wasn’t strong enough and lug that around. The Sonata is just as effective, very portable and I love the Bluetooth feature.

Disappointed

This is my fourth Medela pump and my third child. Unfortunately after 2 months of use the suction became inconsistent. Also, the power adapter failed. I went to the store to purchase the power adapter only to discover it was not sold in stores. I was forced to purchase another pump so that I would not become engorged. I ended up purchasing the Pump in Style Advanced breast pump, which I used before with my older children. I know the accessories for this pump is sold in stores. I highly recommend only purchasing pumps with accessories that are widely sold in stores.

buttery is bad.

I started to use this pump around 5 months ago, and the buttery is already very poor. I am not always using buttery; honestly, I only used buttery for 3 months, only at night (three times per day).

Disappointed

I have not had luck with this pump. Initially it had to be replaced due to lack of suction. The extra parts are expensive. The replacement pump worked okay for a few months however the battery began losing the charge and now has to be pretty much always plugged in. For an expensive pump I am disappointed.

Love/Hate Relationship
on January 9, 2023

I have a love/hate relationship with this pump. I am an exclusive pumper due to my baby having tongue ties and not latching well to my elastic nipples. I pump 5 times a day for 30 to 60 minutes to produce enough milk. I have two sonatas- one for home and one for work. Both pumps are different year models which I bought second-hand because I couldn't afford them new. They both act the same way and have the same quirks so I know it's not a fluke when the pumps act up.
First the good:
-I am producing the most milk I ever have with rhythm #2 on this. I am making enough now to feed my baby. Even with renting a symphony, I was not able to do that.
-There is no vibration on this pump, which I prefer and respond better to.
-The suction is not painful. I have slightly elastic nipples and I can use a higher suction on this because of the rhythm.
-The parts are easy to clean and last a long time.
The bad:
- The battery does not last long enough unless plugged in to go an entire day pumping. It barely lasts 15 off of the plug before I feel a difference in suction.
- The pump sometimes randomly loses suction in the middle of a session even when plugged in- 15 to 20 minutes in. This happens more often if I try to enter the letdown/massage mode again to get a second or third letdown. To fix this have to turn off the pump and reset it by holding the power button. It doesn't always work the first time. This is time-wasting and annoying. My pump sessions are already long enough without having to troubleshoot.
-The pump is not extremely portable- sure, it's better than dragging a symphony around or even a spectra, but the "handle" is slippery and I'm always worried about dropping it.
- The pump is NOT as quiet as they claim it to be. I feel like three other pumps I've tried are quieter than the sonata, including the symphony. I've toyed with the idea of pumping in my cubicle instead of going to the lactation room, but the pump sound would definitely be disruptive to my neighbors.
-The pump parts are heavy and require a SUPER supportive bra. I know the parts are part of what makes this whole thing work, but again it's annoying to have so much weight on the front. I use a heavy silicone flange which also adds to it. This makes it difficult to multi-task. Even changing my baby's diaper is quite the task when I'm worried that flanges might shift or fall out of my pumping bra.
-Parts are expensive and not compatible with any other pump parts (thankfully you can use silicone flanges)- yes they do seem to last longer than parts on other pumps, but they still need to be replaced often enough that it's a nuisance- especially if you are exclusively pumping and want multiple sets to cut down on washing.
Overall- I will use the sonata because it is more effective than any other pump I've tried, but I would like a pump that has more reliable suction, better battery life, and is more portable.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Hi Voiced_Joy--- We appreciate your honest feedback and apologize for any issues you may have encountered. Please be aware that we follow FDA guidelines that state only hospital-grade pumps, such as the Symphony and Lactina, can be used by more than one person. Because of this, we can't advise use with a secondhand personal use pump. Please don't hesitate to contact us at 800-435-8316 with any questions or concerns. We'd be happy to help!

This pump is great… until it breaks.

My family got me this pump after my NICU lactation consultant suggested it because it was the closest thing to the symphonies that they use in the hospital. The pump itself is great. The amounts I got were consistent with that of the hospital pumps.
However, l used this pump for literally 10 days (if that) before the plastic power button fell off into the machine, only allowing me to turn on the pump if I stuck my pinky or another small object through the hole to push the actual red power button. This pump is expensive, I really don’t think that should happen. I wasn’t even traveling with the pump, it stayed on my nightstand for the entire time I was in the NICU because I’d only use it on the overnights IF even went back to my room.
