Overrated!

I wanted this pump so badly! I talked about it for months, my insurance covered a PISA but my coworkers gave me a special shower to get me this pump. I love that the pump is quiet and portable. The battery life is ok. I hate that the parts are not interchangeable with other Medela parts and the bottle can come loose from the connector. A lot of milk also gets left in the connector so I have to take the extra step of taking them apart and shaking the milk into the bottle.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Love this pump! Only trouble with tubing...

I have loved everything about this pump, from how silent it is, easy to use, very small light and portable. It has very strong suction and I feel contributed to my improved success lasting longer on exclusive breastmilk. My only complaint is that the tubing is bending and kinking Affecting poor section as well as cracking on the tubing. The lack of accessibility to just individual parts with this pump is disappointing. Bothered that I would have to get the entire replacement set just for tubing.

Is this covered under the warranty for the pump? I am at five months and this has cause there to be a hole now in the tubing

Barely usable

I bought this pump expecting it to be a full time pump for me but boy was I disappointed when I got to using this thing. For starters my battery dies after a full charge as in I'll charge overnight then take it off the charger but to my surprise when I go to use it it won't turn on...even if the pump hasn't been used since being taken off the charger...Also I have had the pump completely die on me for no reason I have turned off the pump to walk away for a few minutes came back turned the pump on all lights turn on shows a full charge but the motor hasn't started on its own and touch display doesn't respond and when this has happened it has either shut off on its own or I have powered it off myself but then I go to turn it back on and it won't turn on it acts like the battery is completely drained. Very dissatisfied with this product for these reasons...if you don't mind staying connected to the charger it's a great pump and very comfortable to use, it's helped a lot getting clogged ducts unclogged. But if you plan to use this as a portable pump so you don't have to bring a charger or be by an outlet then I'd say this isn't the pump for you.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great Pump

Bought the Sonata a month ago and have been using it twice daily while nursing other times and so far have been satisfied with it. The pump is very quiet. It has a timer and syncs to your phone through the Medela app. Which by the way, the app is great too! It gives so much feedback through your pumping sessions. The parts to the pump are easy to use and to put together is a breeze. The only downfall is the terrible, funny looking bag it comes with. I will be heading to work next month and will be using a bag to carry all my pumping items. The bag will not hold it all (pump parts, pump, cooler, tablet, extra items). I did talk to a rep if they can sell me the tote that comes with the pump in style but they said they cannot do that. I think Medela needs to make the tote the same for all pumps. Just saying.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Excellent for on the go mom’s

I have been using the sonata for seven months now! It’s very convenient because as a working mom I can pump anywhere without needing to plug into a power outlet, the parts are easy to clean and longer lasting then my previous pump. Love that it conects to your phone and automatically uploads you pumping session.

LOVE THIS PUMP!

I am in love with this pump! This is our second child and I wish we had this one with our first. We purchased the Pump in Style originally with our first and it did not work for me.Eventually I dried up because the pump did not work for my body. We got rid of that pump and needed to purchase a new one for this baby.
My husband and I had a little sticker shock with the Sonata but I knew the other option wasn't going to work. We went ahead and purchased it praying it would work better than the first pump did for us. WOW!! Upon the first use I was able to get at least double what I got with the Pump in Style. The Money spent was SO worth it!! I love that it can be taken anywhere and that it has the ability to sync with my phone. I would also recommend getting the hands free bra so that you can pump and still get things done.
I can not say enough good things about this pump and I will be recommending it to all my friends.

Not Worth the Money

5 years ago I bought the Pump in style. 3 years ago I bought the freestyle and about 9 months ago I bought the Sonata (pre-Medela having the Flex breast shields). I have used them all and the best one is the freestyle. The pump in style is big, loud and needs to be plugged in (Freestyle and Sonata do not need to be plugged in to work). However the pump in style is just as big as the Sonata so if you don’t care about the noise or having to plug it in, no need to spend more money. Plus like everyone said minimal parts to wash.
So on to the Sonata… It is not as quiet as they say. The button on it that is supposed to make it quiet just silences the timer. Nothing else. It is just as loud or quite as the Freestyle. However it is much bigger than the freestyle and it is not hands free. You have to carry the thing around whereas the freestyle you can stick it in your pocket, clip it to your pants/bra, etc. You cannot do that with the Sonata. In addition, the Sonata has more pieces to wash and I have noticed that if you don’t let me dry fully or next to the ice pack, the silicone part start to condensate. It is a pain to get the unit in to and out of the bag but the bag from Freestyle, which is a great bag, is not big enough for the Sonata. That is how BIG the Sonata is. Next, the new functionality of the wifi is a waste. Yes, I used it in the beginning, as it was nice to see how long I was pumping, but having to enter in the amount of milk pumped each time was a waste and with a newborn, you just don’t have the time for that. That leads me to the biggest issue I have with the Sonata, as if all the above was not enough, the more high tech it is, then more likely it is to break. When I first received my Sonata, half of the numbers were not working. So the company sent me a new one. About a month later I got an error message – the unit would not work. The battery ended up dying and after being recharged, it started working again – never saw that error message again. But that brings me to the final annoyance with the Sonata. When I start it up, every time without fail, it tells the pump(s) are not connected. I end up having to play with the hose, unplug from one breast, then replug, unplug the other until the unit realizes I am trying to pump both breasts. I end up wasting 2 minutes of pumping time doing this. Every time. The only pro of the Sonata is that it does pump well when it wants to, however the Freestyle works just as well.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
