I recently received my Sonata breast pump, and I have been using it regularly since receiving It as I'm wanting to get my milk supply established before my baby arrives in a few weeks and I have to admit that the quality Madela puts into their pumps is far better than the evenflo dual electric pump I was using.
After switching to a Madela, no others compare I would recommend using Madela breast pumps to any momma.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Loving the pump

I got the sonata a little over a month ago. I’m loving it so far except the screen is blurry now, of the numbers. I’ve only used it 11 times so far so I’m really hoping this pump lasts. I’m disappointed that there is not a car charger available to get or recommended for the pump at this time.

Screen clarity is something we are working to improve. It is normal to have a small amount of light bleed visible on the pump, especially in low light situations. Sonata’s display is best visible within indoor home or work environments. Pumping in direct sunlight or extreme low light may impact the display brightness and legibility. If you are pumping in either of these environments we recommended you use the Pumping Screen, on the MyMedela® app, to assist in reading your current breast pump session settings and time. We hope you find this information helpful. Your suggestion of offering a car charger has also been forwarded to the appropriate team. Thanks for that information!

Was great while it lasted

I had the Medela Freestyle with my first son and it worked great. Unfortunately, after years of non use the battery died. So, my husband bought me this pump which is bigger, louder, but has more features. I've been using it 4x a day for the past 3-4 months and it suddenly stopped holding a charge. It'll last maybe 15 mins. No idea what is up but pretty disappointed since we bought it brand new and it's not cheap either.

Pumping abilities with Suction

I bought the Sonata a few weeks prior to the birth of our premie son, he is our third premie) the first two children (boy/girl) I had the Freestyle pump. I was questioning whether to stick with Medela or try a different pump considering I didn’t have much success with breastfeeding and I never seemed to pump enough ounces of our first two children that I thought I would try something different. I did 6 months worth of research on all different pumps and I decided to invest my money back into Medela but in the Sonata. I am so thankful that I did, I am 3 weeks post baby and the sonata is way better than the freestyle as far as suction, drainage of my milk, and comfort. I have now have pumped over 200 ounces in 3 weeks. My son does not drain my milk in which is leaving me engorged! I pump with the Sonata after and still pump about 5 ounces out of each boob. Spending the extra money on the Sonata was and is worth it. I will say the biggest downfall is the battery, you do have to make sure you charge it, I pump for 20-30 mins and I get about 3-4 pumping sessions which is about 2-3 hours worth of use. But I charge it once every 24 hours and it stays off the charger until it dies.

Great pump

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] With a baby that spent time in the nicu and having to rely solely on pumping I wanted a hospital grade because that's obviously what I used in the hospital. So so impressed with this pump. At first I tried my old PIS and yes that's a great pump as well but when I received and used the Sonata I definitely noticed a difference in power and milk output!

Great product but too many parts

I’m a “NICU Mom” who had to exclusively pump for several weeks (8 times a day). I use the Medela Sonata at home and a hospital grade pump while visiting the NICU.
The biggest Medela Sonata pro: for me, produces more milk than the hospital grade pump thanks to the automatic switch of expression modes and strong suction. I have to manually decrease the hospital pump speed while pumping to try and get similar results.
The biggest con: too many pump parts to clean - especially if you are exclusively pumping 8 times a day. With the hospital pump, I only need to clean 4 parts total after each session. With the Medela Sonata, I have to clean 10 pump parts each time. It’s a real pain to clean 10 parts when you’re exhausted from a long day or are pumping in the middle of the night. Why so many parts Medela?
If you are exclusively pumping, I would think long and hard about having to clean so many parts each time. I wish I had done more research on BF pumps the number of parts before buying the Sonata. I love the Sonata’s features and suction but the number of parts I have to clean is leaving me feeling a bit frustrated.

Great pump, strong as hospital grade

I bought this pump via Aeroflow online. I love this pump! I exclusively pumped for a 1 year in 2015 using the Pump in Style Advanced for work and the Symphony when pumping at home. Sonata is definitely an upgrade for my new one this year! This pump is compact, quiet and strong! In my opinion it is as strong as the Symphony. It is quickly and easily removing milk. I also love that the pump records my pumping time and info and I only need to fill in the amount of milk I pumped.
Cons: I wish I could change the bag it comes in. It looks like the purse my Grandma used when I was a kid. It's really ugly. The Pump in Style backpack was much better for me.
Also, and this is the BIGGEST CON to me. I was really disappointed that the 30 day free trial of the online lactation consultant did not apply to me since I bought my pump from a different retailer. This is what I was told by the Medela helpline at least. I still bought a Medela so I feel like it should have been included. I really could've used the quick and easy online consultant my first month breastfeeding again. I am actually able to breastfeed and not exclusively pump so I had different concerns.

It is wonderful to hear that you're loving the strong hospital-grade performance and Bluetooth compatibility that our Sonata Smart Breast Pump offers! We're sorry for any inconvenience that the Medela.com promotion for the 24/7 LC caused. Retailers and distributors that offer Medela products have the freedom and control over many of the promotions that they choose to offer. The 30-day free trial of the 24/7 LC is a promotion that Medela chose to offer and therefore was only available on Medela.com orders. We truly appreciate your honest feedback regarding the aspects in which we can improve. Your suggestions have been forwarded to our team responsible for continuous product improvement.

Sonata

Medela was the pump recommended by by my doctor and lactation consultant. I have been using this for past 7 weeks and it was working fine. However I feel like vacuum is getting weaker and it is not able to empty my breasts. After pumping with sonata , I use hand pump and I still get more than 1 ounce of milk in less than 5 minutes . I would not recommend it . It is so expensive and accessories are also very pricey.
