But WHY? Changed for the worse.

This is my second medela pump and it is much worse than the older version. The one thing I like is that the pump is smaller than the older version, so I guess more portable. But the pump bag it comes with is MUCH smaller, so it more than offsets that benefit. The pump parts are more difficult to use and more expensive. The door to clasp the diaphragm in tightly looks like it is about to break any day now and does not have a good locking mechanism to ensure it is closed properly. The diaphragms look cool, but they are more difficult to use and after microwaving them a couple of times for sanitation, they really don't like to lay flat to allow me to close the clasp of the system. The worst part about this pump is that the parts and pump are not universal to the older version. The old pump parts are not compatible with the new pump version. So I can't use my extra pump parts I have from previous babies. Instead, I have to buy extras of this one if I want to pump more than once at work.
I still have my old pump and have gone back to using that one. This new one is not the "upgrade" that it should be.
In terms of pump effectiveness, it is pretty much the same as the old version.

Can't double pump.

Firstly I can't pump both sides at once or the pump doesn't suction enough (this is my third baby I know how to pump correctly) secondly the slits in the grey part don't have a seal to prevent milk from spilling out and I just wasted 3.5oz of the 4oz I pumped. It's very loud and I over all hate it. Would not recommend to anyone.

can't see how much is in the bottle

You can't see how much you have pumped because the part is grey. I like the everything this else-it is way better than the spectra pump I have but the grey piece blocks the bottle. I do like how compact the unit is and it would be easy to travel with.

Unfortunate product

With both pregnancies I was unfortunate enough to have to get this product through my insurance at the nearest medical supply store. The first one did what it needed to do, but really started to malfunction in the 11th month of use. It wasn’t till I bought a used spectra that I realized what I was missing out on. With this pregnancy, the local supply store only had this product. I’ve been using it for almost a month and it’s malfunctioning and will barely turn on… again, just been using it for a month.
It’s just really unfortunate.

Loved my medela pumps in the past, however this one is God awful. Suction is horrible and always felt full still fter pumping. Thought it was me so hot a 2nd one and it was the same thing! I'm a momma of twins and the first month I kept trying and eventually gave up on these pumps!

I received this pump from insurance. I get significantly more milk with a hand pump with the incorrect flange size than this pump using the correct flange size. This pump has never been able to remove any milk from my right breast. I know it is not a supply issue as I can easily pump 2oz with the hand pump following a breastfeeding session. 2 stars because it does at least remove some milk from one breast, so I suppose it is not totally useless. Also, yes, I have followed and tried all the guidelines and tips and tricks Medela has posted regarding this pump. It simply is not a good pump, unfortunately.

I got this for free using insurance in January. I initially didn’t like it. It does the job but I feel like other pumps I got more milk out & didn’t have to replace the parts nearly as much. I’m 8 months post partum now and it’s motor is giving out.

Disappointed.

I just had my third baby. With my older two, I used the older version of this pump (Medela Pump in Style Advanced) and I loved it! The only complaint I'd ever heard was that it was loud, but this never bothered me because I felt like the product did what it was supposed to do. With my third baby, I used the new Pump in Style and I would not buy it again. The biggest problem is the suction. Sometimes the pump struggles to grasp my breast and its really frustrating. Sometimes I have to keep adjusting it to get it to grab ahold. The other problems I have with it are minor -- the let down part of the pump is too short in my opinion (I have to push it two or three times in a row). It also only comes with one hose directly into the pump, not two. On the old pump there were two separate hoses that connected directly into the pump, so I had the option to pump on one breast hands-free. Sometimes I've used this new pump to pump one breast but I had to hold my finger over the hole of one side in order to do it, so I couldn't be hands-free. Sometimes pumping on one breast has been beneficial to me because one breast produces a lot more than the other and it felt like my baby couldn't handle the heavy let down of that breast when he was a newborn. Disappointed they did away with that feature. It also took away the ability to pump on one side and breastfeed on the other (hands-free) for those overproducing mamas.
All-in-all, it works, but I wouldn't buy it again. I wish Medela kept the older version.

Hi eam24--- We're sorry to hear about the issues you've experienced! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 800-435-8316 so we can assist you. To use the Pump in Style MaxFlow for single pumping, simply insert the unused tubing end into the tubing holder (the small hole where the tubing splits into a 'Y'). We hope this is helpful!
