Awful Breast Pump — Do Not Buy

This Pump In Style is all around the worst system I have used. I am a mom of 3 and have been able to breastfeed/pump for all of them thus far. This updated Pump in Style is quite an inferior product than the previous model. The settings are not nearly strong enough to adequately express milk. The short let down phase could also be confusing to first time moms. I am constantly overriding the phases to revert back to let down to increase cycle length. The breast shields now impede your view of how much milk is being expressed. I personally found it beneficial to be able to directly see how much/how often you are expressing milk. I do not like the upgrades breast shields. The large membranes are rather cumbersome. …Did a breastfeeding/pumping women actually test this product before Medela started to manufacture this pump?
I have started to let this pump gather dust in my closet while I dusted off my far superior Spectra Breast Pump. The difference in what I can express/pump is unmatched. With the pump in style i can pump about an ounce while with my spectra I can yield 2.5-3 ounces every single time. …that is ALL the proof I need.

Great improvement

I had used the older PIS 5 years ago with my middle child. THIS one is a huge improvement!! No more tiny, finicky membranes, the pump is actually quieter than last model. I love this pump so much!
I would recommend this to a friend!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I will be up front, I did get this through a program with my insurance but I'm so grateful for this product and I did have a choice and picked this pump based on other reviews from people. I planned on breastfeeding and just pumping when I needed to leave my baby with someone for a few hours and then life happened and my baby was born 6 weeks early. She was in NICU for two weeks and I had to exclusively pump until she could learn how to latch and drink enough mls daily to come home. Turns out my little sweetie had a tongue and lip tie that needed to be corrected until she could properly latch so she was fed with a bottle only basically for over a month and a half. I pumped exclusively with this pump only during that time. I was able to pump enough milk and then some to store milk for later. I'm so glad I chose the Medela brand through my insurance, I love all their products. I really like how soft the flanges are for this pump compared to the ones I used at the hospital. Plus it came with the nice little ice pack and cooler. My baby is now 5 months old and I still use this pump and it works just as good as it did when I first got it. I even had a power outage once and was still able to pump through that because of the battery pack that comes with it!
Another game changer is the bra you can buy from Medela so you can be hands free. I would pump and feed my baby a bottle all at the same time to get a little extra sleep.
I received a gift card for my honest review on this product.

Helped with milk production

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Max flow is a great easy to use breast pump for new and veteran moms. Its nice and quiet so it allows you to pump without being super noticeable or waking up your baby. The suction is nice and strong but yet gentle on your nipple. It helped to really get my milk flowing.Overall after three babies this is the most milk I have gotten with pumping. The whole set up very compact and light weight which makes it nice for traveling. I would definitely recommend it to any mama who wants to pump their milk.

Does not work

I ordered this pump through my insurance and thankfully tried it before our baby came. The pump would not turn on with the power adapter or the battery pack. Then after messing with it for a little bit we could get it to turn on for a few seconds and then it would switch off again. It is very difficult to tell when the machine is on or not as there is no light on it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Extremely unhappy with this pump...

- suction not strong enough - leaks when you change the bottle or open to remove the bottle - white plastic makes it difficult to determine how much milk is in bottles - pumping mechanism clicks and shakes the table it sits on - flanges leak milk out the bottom ALL THE TIME! I honestly couldn’t be more disappointed with this pump. I chose this new model over the older pump in style and I wish I could go back! I wish I would have stuck with the older version. It’s incredibly frustrating and disappointing.

BEST PUMP EVER!!

I absolutely LOVE this breast pump! Not only is it so light-weight, compact and easy to take anywhere, it is also soo comfortable and helps me release all of my milk! I am so glad I got this pump! It's very effective and pumping time is even cut shorter now so I have more time with my Little. I would recommend this to moms and new moms!

Hate this pump, old pump works better

I am a Medela fan and am so disappointed by this pump. I previously started with the pump in style advanced. I still have the pump from 2019, used it at least 3 times a day for 4 months straight and it still out-performs this new pump and parts.
First, the pump sounds annoying. I get that all pumps make noise but this one you have to pull out of the bag, put on the table since the power cable plugs into the side and not the top along with the tubing. So it’s “out in the open” making it noisier than my other pump that can stay in the bag.
Second, I do not like the design of the new connectors. The grey part is completely excess, just to look more stylist even though I’m completely alone when pumping… who am I looking good for?! Since the grey part extends down the bottle more, it takes up more space in my pumping bag and it’s hard to see milk dripping to tell when I’m done, especially hard when the bottle is 4oz full. This leads to another issue: one side produces more for me so I used to be able to swap the bottles mid pumping. The previous valve design kept the milk in the valve and centered within the bottle openings. This new design, milk is all over inside the connectors. So not only can I no longer swap bottle without making a mess but there is also milk left inside that gets wasted. Thought every drop matters Medela? I also miss the clear plastic because I could better see the milk expressed, how much is getting expressed with each pulse and how my nipples were centered during pumping. The white plastic blocks any view of these details that helped make pumping more effective. All for style/looks. Nothing about efficiency has been improved.
Third, I also feel this pump is less effective than my old pump. It isn’t as strong. I feel like the milk expressed is more watery, that less fat content is pulled out. I just pumped with this pump and then switched to my old pump and got another ounce! I’ve done all the tricks and checks to make sure it’s set up right and this thing was such a waste of money.
And of course, it’s a medical device so I’m stuck with it.
