Excellent occasional use saw

We recently moved from a condo to a more rural setting and had to get all new power equipment. I decided that I'd rather buy battery tools than start all over again with gas and bought this saw along with the polesaw and couldn't be happier. We needed to take down about 12 smaller diameter trees that were either dead or too close to the house and read about how highly rated this saw was. This saw had all the power needed to do the job. The battery has a long life in fact I ran out of energy before the battery did. The chain stayed nice and tight throughout and the battery charges relatively fast. I would highly recommend this for any occasional use applications. It may have the power to do even more but I haven't tried anything like that yet.

I bought this chainsaw for a couple of reasons. First, I got tired of the maintenance for my gas saw and having to mix the duke for it when I really only need it once every couple of years or so. Second, I already own a blower and trimmer from Greenworks and have had great luck with them.
The saw worked better than I expected as I was using it to cut some hedge trees for firewood. The saw was able to do the task without any problems. As with anything that is battery powered, if you have a lot or work to do, make sure that you have extra batteries handy

I had a 16" Pro 60V chainsaw for a few years and upgraded to the 18" chainsaw. The difference is dramatic, especially the new battery. I was happy with the 16" chainsaw, but I'm totally thrilled with the 18" saw and the improvements that Greenworks made.

Cuts through hardwood just like a 42cc gas saw if not better. Good design and seems well constructed. Don't expect a very long runtime if the bar is fully buried in hardwood. Maybe 15 minutes on a 4ah. But even a gas saw would need refilled shortly after that.

Plenty of cutting power

I had a large ash tree taken down and now I'm cutting it up. This saw cut through 20 inch logs smoothly and quickly. Saw is heavy but balance is good. Cutting time is short though on a 5.0 battery.

It's Greenworks and it's quality that works. Way easier to handle/use than a gas powered saw, and for my use, it's more than powerful enough. I own several Greenworks tools and they've all proven to be high quality, reliable, and more than sturdy enough to do the work.

Inferior battery life

The battery only supplies 10 minutes of cutting time. With small branches, that might be anywhere from a half hour to an hour of cutting, broken up by periods of letting the saw rest. But on large logs, I can only get about three cuts done before the battery is too drained to continue. That's right. Three cuts. A saw this size, labeled 'Pro', is completely incompatible with such a short battery life. Do. Not. Buy. It.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
