Some Issues

1. The Qualified Business Deduction (for apartment rental income) was not accepted by IRS and Audit Defense would not intervene or explain reason.
2. The carried over list of charities is in random order. Please setup in alphabetical would save time in completing edits.
3. The Massachusetts Form asks for information about past IRA withdrawal income. But no information from past taxes is carried forward. I left it blank and it did not come back as an error.

I've used TurboTax for years and years. It's always been easy to use and started out great this year until I got to the review of my return. It highlighted the section where it talks about a child tax credit and told me to correct that section. I had already answered questions about dependent children (don't have any) so I couldn't figure out what to do there. My son in law got it figured out after I wasted almost an hour trying to find out how to fix that. The other section that stumped me was the electronic signature. The program put a number on it and highlighted it but I couldn't figure out where the number came from so I started looking for info about it which took me 1 1/2 hours to figure out. Hope they fix things like that for next year.

Almost perfect, but not quite

The federal software is very, very straightforward, but the state interface leaves something to be desired. But a broader nit is that all entries that should have a magnifying glass available to trace them back to their origin is not always present, which can lead to massive frustration. The foregoing is particularly apt when forms change from year to year. Finally, treatment of QCD's paid from RMD's, especially if the former exceeds the latter, is awkward at best. And truly finally, the entries downloaded from, say, brokers, are only as accurate as broker's own entries. Look them over carefully!

Advertising a product as federal and state should not hide an additional charge to efile state taxes. I hope you get busted for this illegal practice.
