Turbo Tax is friendly

First time using it by myself and found it easy to follow. It allows you to easily link your bank information for interest income, investments, ... which makes completing IRS forms much easier. Step-by-step screens and complete reviews before filing.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbo Tax is good - with one exception

I have used Turbo Tax for years - but it always says receive one state efile for free - and have done two returns for 2021 and had to pay $25.00 for each return filed!

Not as pleased as in past years

I have been a Turbo Tax user since 2010. The Information from previous tax years, which has not changed, should be carried over and then asked to verify. Examples: Driver licenses numbers, Sch. C Business Code number, Vehicle information,
I also needed to make an additional deduction on my Schedule C after completing the Ohio State return. The old dollar information concerning the Business Income Deduction was still on the State return. I knew it should have changed. I ran the return review and it was not caught I went in and fixed it myself. If I did not catch this error I would have had an $8.00 error of additional taxes due on my Ohio Return.
I carryover any Federal refund to the next tax year. I could not find where the system should prompt me to do this this year. I had to go into the form view and change the information directly on the form. It may have been an option that appears before you E -file but I did not what to take a chance. This should have been a option choice in the question section. On Balance I probably will continue to use Turbo Tax, but may investigate other tax preparation products before 2022 return is due.

Getting more difficult each year using TurboTax

It seemed easier in the past to use the program, and there are more added fees to access certain features. I understand your are in business to make money but the tax codes is really simple for most people, but the software costs have not gone down.

NOT GLITCH FREE

Every year there seems to be a point where the software runs off into a ditch, necessitating backing up. Usually, after I rerun some of the steps it rights itself and gets the job done. This year it seemed to loose its mind. After I'd completed the federal taxes and had moved on to the state, I looked up and noticed that my federal tax owed had jumped from $1144 to almost $4,000. I retraced my steps and found nothing had changed, but the program had simply decided on a different number. This time, I ditched the return altogether and started over from scratch. It came up with the original number. I filed immediately, not daring to close the file and take a chance on its changing its mind again. BTW, I've been using TurboTax for decades. This seems to occur practically every year. I've become resigned to it.

This program fell apart when it came time to file.

I have been using turbo tax since 2015 and this has been the worse year. Everything went smoothly until it came time to file. When I tried to file is was told to update my Turbo Tax and it took me two weeks from that point to get the file sent. I finally had to un-install the program, re install it and then enter the data I had finished entering two weeks before. This poor performance gives me reason to question my Purchas next year
