I have used TurboTax for many years and during those years TurboTax appears to be getting easier to use. What I really like is the ability to make entries directly into the forms if I need to. The TurboTax updates are automatically sent directly to your computer if required after you install the program from a disc. I will continue to use TurboTax due to the instructions that are easy to follow and the thorough review of my taxes as they are entered.

Hideous! Frustrating! Time consuming!

Would'nt let me efile. Kept going back to one line in K-1 but the code and the numbers are correct. System wouldn't pass it by. Very frustrating, especially since I already paid to efile.

Desktop Product Got the Job Done

After having a large amount of issues with the online product entering options transactions satisfactorily, I decided to get a download of the the deluxe desktop version where I can see the entire form instead of one transaction at a time. Anyway, it saved me time also by combining trades that could be combined into a summary and separating those that could not into the 8949 all by itself. It also didn't bark about dates for when short trades were sold---only the acquire date means anything and the other is highly debated and the IRS doesn't care. Online version of TT, makes you review every short trade if your broker shows the acquisition date later than the sold date. Each takes a very long time---spinning wheel icon sometimes 40 seconds. The Deluxe version again, was much smarter and just filled out the form.
If the online version gets to the point where you can edit and see individual forms while still filling them out, I would switch. Not until then though.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Kind of worth it

Lots of work on my end. I had some questions I had to research on my own. It had me pay $25 at the end to e-file my taxes on top of the cost of the program.

Free State is NOT Free

That is a slimy thing to do, post an offer for a 'free' state return but then apply a charge to efile. That is rotten business practices. Next year will be using a different software.
