It does the job-- but should be better

One of the things I don't understand about TurboTax is why it asks me things like "Did you get a refund on your taxes last year?" when I started by importing the tax forms prepared by their software last year. There were serveral times where the program directed me to refer back to form XXXX, line YY. I would grumble to myself, why don't you already know the answer to that question? If I used someone else's software last year, I could understand this... but not when I used TurboTax last year. Another improvement they should make is importing scans of W2's and common tax forms. The online version does this, why doesn't the installed version do this?

We've used Turbo Tax for years and it has always been easy to understand. Not anymore. The wording to questions were REALLY hard to understand. They were confusing and did not make sense. We never had trouble figuring out what the questions were in past years. I know tax rules change every year, but you should be able to still make it easy for the average person to understand. Very, Very, disappointed in how the wording has changed.

Turbo Tax is Generally a good product

Turbo Tax is generally a good product. My biggest issue has been the loop that I get into when Turbo Tax keeps insisting that I have to e-file my NYS return but will not let me e-file that return because I have not e-filed my federal return. However, I cannot e-file my federal because of the requirement to send in hard copy documentation.

Grateful for all the tips and guidance. A little confusing if you have some income through your own side business but the program makes up for it with grace, letting me go back and forth to confirm the most accurate choices.

Turbo Tax Deluxe

I have two issue with Turbo Tax Deluxe. 1) For the price it should also include state e-file. I feel like I am being penalized for living in a state with state taxes. 2) This year a had a very small capital loss. Deluxe should be able to handle that without trying to up sale me to premium.
