Distributions of 401K and Investment Capital Gains

I was not clear from Turbo Tax guidance on what to claim as investments (short term and long term gains) and dividends as relates to what my investment company showed on their 1099-DIV and what should be reported as taxable income. If dividends were reinvested automatically and no real disbursements were made, do I still have to include as Income? Since I erred on behalf of conservatism, I included all gains listed on the 1099s in income. That said, I still have a nagging feeling I included DIV items that did not have to be reported. This, of course, affected my taxable income and refund due me.

I have been using Turbo tax for about well over 20 years and its been getting crappy the last few years! will be looking at different software next year.

it stinks

it takes two days to do your taxes, one day just to load the software..........why does it take so long? I've used turbo tax for at least ten years and every it gets more complicated.
This year I had a hard time getting it to just print the required forms for filing.
