Good, But Room For Improvement

The product is solid. It provides updates that are made 'on the fly' by either the federal and/or local government in fairly good time. Allowing for free e-file for both makes a good deal of sense. The 'Walk me through...' option helps to ensure that you don't miss out on areas of income or deductions. The product also allows for going back to any point of the process at any time (prior to filing your returns), which can be a big help. All that said, there is one improvement I'd like to see. Last year, I filed before the federal government passed the law which allowed for unemployment benefits NOT to be taxed by the federal government. When I went to amend my taxes, TurboTax was kind enough to perform the update automatically and informed me that I didn't have to do anything as the federal government would send it automatically. However, the update changed my AGI (adjusted gross income). When I attempted to file this year, I was entering an incorrect AGI which caused my taxes to be rejected several times over the course of several days. After a few hours of research, I was instructed to create an account on the IRS website so that I can receive a transcript of last years taxes - which included my original AGI and not the one that was saved. All this said, I would like to have the software present an option which, when an update occurs that changes the AGI, allows for the user to be informed that the AGI has changed and the file should be saved under a new name so that we can have access to both the original AGI and the updated AGI. It shouldn't be a difficult change to make and it would certainly make life easier for the users and Intuit's tech-support staff - I'm sure.
