Good software.

Overall it is good software. It takes a bit to get used to, and some of the information takes some digging to get to the right information. Example: For cash donations, the overview only includes the entry for itemized deductions, but does not pick up the amount allowed under the standard deduction. If I had not done an error check review it would not have picked this up. It should be part of the overview process since most taxpayers will fall under the standard deduction.

I was disappointed that it did not take info from last years return I did with Turbo Tax. Some things did come up, some didn't. Some questions I didn't know what it was talking about.

Used TurboTax for years. Yes, they want to upgrade you into a paid version but they were always upfront about it. This year when I finished my return, there was a "continue" link on the bottom. Yikes! This was to an enrollment window for Credit Karma. When I read the fine print, I learn I will be releasing all my financial and personal identity information to Credit Karma to do whatever they want with it. TurboTax did not have any statement it wasn't a requirement to get my return filed. Very sneaky and manipulative.

TurboTax works really well!

Year after year, the ability to file with the Standard Deduction is a relief. My old CPA always charged me 20 to 40 times what I paid for the program. About 2 decades ago, I started buying Turbo Tax to prepare docs for the CPA and I found that there were few, if any, changes she would prepare for me versus TT, and the figures were always the same, less the fees she charged, the time it took, and the holding of my breath. And she never filed it electronically. I had to toddle on down to the post office and mail it to Austin Texas with a zip code, Made me always wonder if it got there.
