NY State return steps too burdensome

Used TT for years - always with multiple states. First time I needed to complete NY which seemed more burdensome and less user friendly than it could have been.

Turbo Tax is OK

Last year I was a Tax CPA and a partner of a local firm using CCH ProSystem software, and I prefer that software more. Yes, I realize that software was a $20,000 cost and I can't compare that. Now I am retired and using Turbo Tax to file my family personal returns

After a switch from another tax software that I had used for over 15 years, I am satisfied that I got the return accompllished in an expeditious manner. However, there are routines in the process (calculation of penalty, etc.) that are not shown and/or never told where one can view the process.
