One of Lego’s Best
on July 1, 2021

Absolutely terrific set with a great building experience. The sand green was a great choice when translating this set from it’s original variation to the official set. This set is sure to be eye catching wherever you decide to display it in your house. Great sturdy final product with some of the coolest moving features I have seen in an official set.
There are 2 stickers in this build one in the front and the back which is not ideal, but they go in the bottom of the front and back and isn’t too noticeable if you don’t put them on. I didn’t put mine on my type writer because the building instructions, stickers and the cool letter you get to display in the typewriter was bent in their separate packaging in my box. I don’t mind them being damaged, but I sure wish I had a “perfect” one.
Thank you Lego for this amazing set I wish I could build it for the first time again.

Needs more design time
on July 12, 2021

Overall a pretty good build, however there are several design elements that need improving. First, the bottom plates are very loosely connected, with many parts aligning on the seams instead of across them. This makes the bottom very unstable when moving, as well as allows parts to disconnect under the stresses of the typing. Second, the fake arm assembly is a mess. Either my black band was not long enough, or the design needs work. There is no way to connect both ends of the band and have the spacer and arms go where they should. It’s a tight fit, and connects poorly. The return arm is connected by a flimsy connector that pops out as soon as you touch it with any force, should have been a hard connect point. Finally, the carriage assembly on goes across about half way before you have to push back to the beginning. Fix these flaws and it’s a great product, but right now it seems like it was rushed into production

What an amazing product!!

Honestly, I would start by saying to take any low review with a grain of salt. This build is great and solid, the only weak point is the front under the space bar, don't pull it by that. I also would have liked a full base so you didn't see the table or surface under the keyboard, but those are minor and do not take away from the 5 stars at all.
If you miss one of the steps or don't fully follow directions you can mess up something big time causing to have to back track far to fix it, but my advice on that, pay close attention to all steps.
The typewriter does "work", the paper feed is tricky, mess with the angle of the mechanism behind the paper to make it work, the letter from the owner of the LEGO group is neat, maybe overkill to have 43 of them, but may have been easier than a different one per country.
As you type the paper moves as does a striker and once at the end you can push it back with a satisfying clicking mechanism. Would have been perfect if they found a way to add a bell noise, but not sure how they would have accomplished that. The ribbon looks neat too.
This set is going on my bookshelf and it goes great with the statue of liberty and bansai tree that I already have there. Love these sets that are easy to add to non-LEGO decore!

A bit of a let-down
on July 30, 2021

The internal mechanics are very clever, but I felt somewhat gypped when I realized that only one “Key Hammer” moves for the whole keyboard. The roller-spring section only goes about halfway into where the page would be, so there’s a bit of a tactile letdown there as well. The space bar is a complete afterthought, and is a very clunky and flimsy design.

Look Familiar?

As someone who has always been interested in vintage typewriters, I was extremely excited when Lego announced the typewriter set. I became even more excited when the first images of the set were released and I realized it looked similar to my own vintage typewriter from 1957.
Building this set was challenging, but it was a fun experience. It was interesting to see how the inner workings of a typewriter were created with Legos, and I look forward to displaying it!

Looks great after build
on October 12, 2021

This set is nice only if you can get it to stay together. While building the frame, the front part specific won't stay together. I have to always pick up the front and put it back, which is frustrating because of the hefty price of this set. If I could return this I would because I can't even show it off without it falling apart.

Astonishing Typewriter (But tricky to build)
on January 4, 2022
Posted by: Ernest Drake
This LEGO set was to build with my father, whom is a writer. I built it with him and really had a good time.
Pros:
NO MISSING PIECES/
AMAZING DESIGN/
COMPACT AND RESISTANT/
IT WORKS (what more to say?!)
Cons:
HARD TO BUILD (some parts are very LEGO TECHNIC-like and the typebars fit very well, but need a surgeon's precision when building)/
COMPLEX INSTRUCTIONS/
SLIGHTLY OVERPRICED
Overall:
Great set, amazing in every aspect (except those stated above) but only for experienced builders.

At first I was like who wants a typewriter. Now I am like who wouldn’t want a typewriter. It’s my favorite set.
