A Mechanical Marvel

I can safely say that this is one of the most interesting Lego sets that I have had the pleasure to build. The mechanism of the keys and hammer left me giggling with joy as it all came together. My happiness doubled again as the sliding carriage began to take shape.
My favorite kind of art is the kind that you can physically interact with, and "typing" with the set is an absolute joy. My only caveat is that the initial setup of the key mechanism can be a bit tedious, and that it is easy for the key arms to get sticky from the friction, but I understand that it is necessary for the system to work as well as it does.

I love that this build works very similar to a real typewriter. The booklet included with this build's history was a great read when taking a break between bags to let feeling come back to my fingers.

Great first build experience

I liked Lego years ago and did a flower set last spring, but hadn't done any builds like this. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I did have to re-do the first part a couple of times as I did not know how to see if the shape was a half-height or full-height spacer, but once I figured that out it went together fairly easily. Again, as someone not used to the instructions, I missed a few parts that didn't show arrows for placement, so had to go back and add them. I definitely needed to take the required pieces and put them in one area and not turn the page until they were used. Some parts, like the gears, were hard to identify, but they were all used around the same area so they worked once I moved them around. Still, the back space doesn't work, so I must have forgotten something somewhere. But I love that I can add paper, the roller works, typing moves the carriage, and the carriage return works, even if I have to hold the typewriter so it doesn't move. Very fun. I really like it.

Incredible build

This is really an incredible piece of engineering! Everything from the weight, carriage return, keys and ribbon are realistic. It was a challenging build and I admit some rebuilding. However, the end product is really terrific and is sitting on my coffee table. Highly recommend.

I really loved this build.
Lots of ah-ha moments during the internal parts- which I found super enjoyable. I had no idea how things would fit together but they magically did; making my brain so happy.

Instructions were wonderfully clear. I’m a big lego fan/builder but I hadn’t done a build with techic type elements before. Really appreciated how each step had the new pieces being added outlined in red.
Only bummer of this set…. The space bar.
Does absolutely nothing and feels like an afterthought.

This is one of the best sets I've built. Each part is unique, and the functionality is really exciting. I love the colors and the finished product is a great display piece. Well worth the money!

Ridiculously Cool!

Completed typewriter has been in my office for a less than a week: in that short time, five different people have glanced at it, walked over to look closer, and then exclaimed, "Oh my gosh! Is this thing made out of LEGO's?!?" Just an incredible set - highly recommended!

Loved building the typewriter. Love that it “works”. I have it sitting next to my real vintage typewriter and they look amazing together. Great for anyone who loves typewriters, steampunk and of course, Legos. Highly recommend. A+
