Fun, challenging build

The typewriter is a pretty unique build, and the mechanics are really fun to watch come together.
It looks amazing on display, and watching the carriage move as you "type" is very satisfying

Typewriter is cool but a little repetitive

This is such a wonderful thing to display on my shelf but it is somewhat hard for me to recommend this set. I don't mind repetitive steps but with the amount of technic pieces that go into this, it really was difficult to enjoy the building experience. But in the end, the functionality is cool to see come together and makes for a beautiful set to display in my bookcase!

Very fun set

I really liked building the set except I kept messing up and had to pull it apart in the early steps but I figured out what I did wrong, finished the set and I am so happy with the end result. The color looks really good and so do the keys. I like how the middle row actually clicks like an original typewriter. Overall: Really fun set.

This was much more enjoyable to build than I thought it would be. A few spots were a bit challenging but they don't detract from fun of seeing all of the technical pieces come together. Definitely worth picking up.

Excellent build experience

This typewriter was my first and only lego build. Got it as a Christmas gift. I started working on it right away, but stopped early in the build when I realized I messed up on the typewriter keys gearing assembly because it meant having to disassemble some of my build to correct my mistake. It sat on my dining room table like that for about 4 months.
Finally got back to it, and in the process of correcting my build mistake, I started to fall in love with the project. The level of complexity of the internal gear assembly is amazing. I was reading some of the less-than-stellar reviews for this Lego project, and I'll tell you, the key to a successful build is to understand the pattern and visual cues of the instructions. The quality of the instructions themselves is top-notch, once you understand the pattern. I made many mistakes and had to disassemble components to correct them, but each and every time I saw that it was because I missed something in the instructions.
Completing the build was bittersweet. There is actually a mistake I chose to leave in; a black piece where there should be green. But it's uniquely mine, so there it will remain. This typewriter is not fully-functional but feels as though by adding an ink ribbon to the build you could actually type something out on paper.
Overall awesome experience.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The end product looks nice but the build is awful. The tension needed to place the next element often caused previous elements to break off. The rubber pads under the space bar often pop off when being played with. There is also no base under the keys. The set needs a more robust base.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is my 5th Lego build and my first time doing anything with gears or mechanics. I absolutely loved it! It wasn't simple or ordinary. If you're looking for a unique Lego build, this one is an absolute blast!!
