My oldest son needed an apnea monitor which involved straps around his chest with wires connecting to a large box. 20 years later my youngest uses the owlet. Little sock on his foot and a small base station. Same piece of mind better technology and affordable !

Great gift for new parents

I used to constantly want to be checking my baby's breathing. Now I can just glance at the owlet and check for the green light. Especially helpful now that baby is sleeping for longer stretches.
Pros: Continuous monitoring, Easy to use app
Cons: Sock is difficult to get on. Needs elastic.

Absolutely worth the investment!

My wife and I purchased these for our pre-term (31 week) twin boys. They were both born with respiratory issues and frequently experienced apneic periods during their stints in the NICU. We did not know what to expect from the Owlet monitors. There were some growing pains during setup because we were using two units. However, once setup, the have worked amazingly. The peace-of-mind alone is worth the investment. We were given the opportunity to compare these units with the hospital monitors when one of our boys needed surgery. These units are very accurate and respond rapidly. It is definitely an investment, but completely worth the expense when you consider the alternative.

Gives a piece of mind, however alarm goes off for no reason

We are frequently experiencing a random alarm for no reason. How do I know it is for now reason? Well, we would get a notice to check the placement of the sock and a few seconds ago we got the 'normal' reading' and baby was next to us so she has not even moved. We restart the base and all of the sudden the readings can happen again without us readjusting the sock. Sometimes it also says cannot get the reading due to 'wiggling' but our baby is sound asleep and is not moving. Overall I do feel better having this product.

Great idea poor execution

We got this for our new born. We thought the owlet would give us piece of mind while our baby was sleeping. However, the camera is constantly loosing connection to the WiFi the sound constantly goes in and out. We really just spend more tome getting up and down to either refresh the app or go into our sons room. We are going to get a new monitor today. be weary when buying.

Owlet is the best thing we bought for our new baby

I asked my wife the other day, "which of the items on our registry did you like the most overall?" And her answer was the diaper bag or bassinet or something of course :) I'm a computer science nerd and my overwhelming answer is definitely our Owlet Smart Sock. It's not just cool new technology though -- it's really an incredible tool for new parents. Peace of mind is priceless. I didn't think I was going to be one of "those" parents that would be constantly checking on their kid and making sure they're breathing -- but I am. You care about your child! Being able to put him down and go to sleep without waking up constantly checking if he's breathing or not has been what's made the transition to parenthood so sweet and so not-as-sleep-deprived as I thought! 100% recommended.
(For future iterations, it would be nice if the base was portable or partially battery-powered. Our electricity went out and the Smart Sock is almost unusable at that point, but we did plug it into a battery pack and got it rolling!).
Finally, we got the refurbished version and it has exceeded every expectation. It has felt like buying something brand-new in every single way. No issues whatsoever.
