Peace of Mind

Our son was born with a critical airway and required surgery and 7 weeks in the NICU before we could bring him home. We bought the Owlet around week 2 with a forecast of sending us home with monitors and positional aids however, our son regressed and subsequently surgery was decided upon. Post surgery the airway was no longer critical, but that did not entirely elieviate our fears as parents. We've used the Owlet every night since then (8 weeks at home now) and cannot articulate the peace of mind that it has provided us. I'm absolutely certain we would not be sleeping as soundly as we are if the Owlet was not on. Much is written about false alarms or connectivity issues and I can very confidently say these were not issues for us. In 8 weeks we have had only 3 false alarms - two of them occurring on the same night in a span of 25-30 minutes. Connectivity has never been an issue. There is a strong connection everywhere in our 2-story townhouse, except one corner of one room which is about 30-ish feet from the base unit. (We seldom use when downstairs, so there may be other dead spots, but we have not discovered them.) Overall, we could not be more happy with the consistency, accuracy and reliability of the Owlet. Now, before this reads like a paid marketing pitch (which it is not), there are couple of things that we feel were less than great and could/should be improved. First is the sock. It's tough to describe our issue with it, but both my wife and I have commented that it could probably be designed better. We feel like the current sock too easily squishes the toes and we fear it could slip off easily if left outside a onesie for even a brief moment. That being said, it does a very adequate job of keeping the monitor in place, so in that regard it does its job. The second is the App. We have both iPhone and Android versions and both work well in terms of relaying vitals from the base unit - at home and away (I'd check in from the office occasionally) - cont...

We have a little micropreemie who came home on an apena monitor which was discontinued shortly after being home. This owlet works a million times better than the monitor our insurance company gave us!

I debated on getting this product for my son as a newborn. The nurses in the NICU said that it would make me crazy with how I was a "number" person. Once trying to transition to the crib at 4 months, it SAVED ME. He would immediately roll over on his belly, and having the Owlet gave me the peace of mind to actually sleep.

We have been using the Owlet for our 3 month old daughter for the last 2 months and couldn't be happier. She sleeps in a co-sleeper next to our bed at night and naps in her crib during the day. At night, I would find myself constantly awake to check on her, which meant I was getting even less sleep than a new mom normally would nursing an infant through the night. Our daughter was tiny when she was born and had fluid in her lungs, so I found myself tossing and turning worrying about her breathing, etc. We bought the Owlet because it provides such great information on our baby's vitals and we don't have to worry about her falling off a monitoring pad, etc. The Owlet has given me tremendous peace of mind and I've been able to rest and focus on having more sleep and energy to help her thrive. The Owlet is worth every penny! The App is really great and I love reading the "fun facts" about Scarlett's growth and development. We haven't had any problems with false alarms and the connectivity in our house is perfect so we also don't get any "out of range" alerts - so the Owlet is very reliable for us and easy to use as long as the sock fits snuggly.
